You write inspirational instructions for all writers that I am sure are treated with gospel respect. For my part, I need to do the opposite, and get away from the computer and try living. It is not unusual for me to spend ten hours sitting in my duff in front of the screen.

Great stuff.

Seriously, Ingrid. If you lived near me I'd say we'd need to grab a cuppa as my Aussie and Brit friends say. From 7AM to 11PM I'm at my writing table. Only two hours daily is spent on new stuff, but the rest is 98 percent FS, one percent Twitter housekeeping, 1/2 percent eating and 1/2 percent body-related concerns. My children have SERIOUSLY considered intervention, but who has time for that?

For some reason, the post is wider than the window, so I have to keep moving it left and right on the page in order to read the ends of the lines. Otherwise, the scroll box is covered up by the post.

It's a good post, Jay. It has me pondering. Makes me realize that writing a novel is darn hard work and I'm not sure that the desire is strong enough to put in all the required labor. "The Birthing process". Sounds like very hard work. I'd have to clear my agenda.
Well done, Jay. Guess I'd better get at it.

Adrienne, thank you so much for the six stars, and for showing me it has you thinking of getting to work on that novel.

Well done, it's kind of funny that we can destroy any illusions with words that we have about anything, but the great thing is they are just words, clever in grant you, whether we call it inspiration or hylotaphy it really doesn't matter, it still remains. And these days I have to turn some ideas away, otherwise I wouldn't have any sleep. I have heard Zig Ziglar before, such a speaker and motivator. Well done, Jay, I'll try not to get weighed down by too many hypotheses! Blessings, Roy.

What if you don't want to remarry...grrr. It was too painful the first time.LOL. I have a few extra martial affairs laying around here somewhere...lol. Much more fun. Maybe I will go and try and stir the pot with one of those :). Love this Mr. Squires!!!

This is like a free tutorial, very informative and educative. You run the details in simple manner to allow a reader a deep comprehension of your muse. I am really blessed with the details.

I like it when I see another one of your critting posts pop up. I eagerly read it, to see if I can get any pointers, and then try my best to apply them to my ramblings.
In this case, I am guilty of hoarding two unfinished novels, lurking in a folder in the top of my wardrobe. I had three on the go at one stage, and decided to put my current one on FS. I'm tempted to drag the other two out sometimes, but I won't. I'm on the home straight with my current one, and look forward to crossing the finishing line. I won't give up. But from there, I have no idea how to go about publishing. I'm waiting to see what you come up with next, Jay.

This is yet another interesting and helpful addition to the story that the author has created with this piece of work. This is great information. I just hope that you can go onto approaching editors and publishers, because that is the area that is letting me down. I can write plenty, but I can't seem to get published. Maybe I am going to have to settle for being an amateur writer. Well done yet again.

You just have to keep looking at the failure level of great writers before they got published. When no one had faith in their abilities, they did, and that was the only food their dedication needed. Thanks again for you kind words, Tomes.

Wow! I got a lot out of this very well written post. I'm working on a book right now. You and I know how far I am from perfect when it comes to writing. What you have written here is giving me the desire to restructure my story and edit it over and over. This has been a very interesting post, because it comes at the exact time that I need it. It held my attention very well. It was my pleasure to be able to read it. I have learned from it. And I have pasted it with the other information I've received from this site (much of which comes from you). Thank you, my friend. Best wishes to you.

Always with respect,

I'm so gratified, Elgie, that you've found this post so useful. Unless you don't have any trouble sticking your butt to a chair for a set number of hours EVERY day, don't underestimate that "Don't Break The Chain" calendar. I'm a real believer in it for myself. Elgie, I almost got away without the extra dollop of thanks for your 6 stars. That means so much to me.

I'm thinking that saying you're looking for may relate to something like: Genius = 1% inspiration + 99% perspiration. Maybe wrong.
This was a very good read with lots of tips for those of us like me who haven't put the toe on Novel Road because I don't actually believe I'm an author yet. Maybe, one day, (is that a 'a wandering generality?) but it's all I've got till 'inspiration hits' or maybe self-belief.
I know what you say about half-baked visions and desires. None of it works without the romancing of the project. The thought of that sort of discipline scares the beezeezus (my own word) out of me. I think your formulae are sound, simplistic, but reality in a easy format.
That last part, editing, that's a doozy. It's the hard yards after the hard yards with inspiration, but I'm learning to value it more each day.
Thanks, mate, these little pep talks of yours always leave me with something to consider about my own work.

I KNEW it! You HAVE been spying on me, checking my files! (LOL) Jay, I am really, really upset with you right now. Do I hafta? (You've only got TWO unfinished novels? Just a couple of stories? So my five started novels is a bad thing, is that what you're telling me? - wait -six, seven...) But really, do I hafta? (LOL)

Okay, here's my excuse - the muse abandoned me for a long time when I ignored her. She is very much a diva, I think.

This is GREAT. I'm keeping it for reference material. It won't gather cobwebs, moths or dust bunnies (fingers crossed), promise. (Do I HAFTA? okay, on one condition - how much will you charge me to review EVERYTHING. *LOL*)
