I love the smell of freshly mowed grass and your verse expressed it so well. I could actually smell it. Also the coffee! A lovely verse well written with great alliteration and rhythm. A very enjoyable read. Robin :)

this one deserved a 6 and I dont give them out very easy but this is one of the best free versed poems that I have read in a long time. I love the poems that drag me in kicking and screaming and I live in the poem till it is done. I can see thru your words everything. It was great.

Dear Sharon,
I've never given back to back six's to one writer, but this poem knocked me out. the nature, beautiful visual portraits with words and just the awesome aura and feeling of the piece. Have some champagne tonight, you deserve it:)

On that lovely porch in Maui? Orin Old DC? Either way, you deserved the rating. Two fantastic writes and you know I wouldn't do that capriciously:) Congrats on some really great writing--Ted

I know you wouldn't - that's why I'm smiling - and you can come sit on my porch any time - bring your music! :)

Of course:) My music travels with me, whether it's my tenor saxophone, a harmonica in my pocket (a pocketful of blues) or just the velvet Crooner, "First the tide rushes in, then plants a kiss on the shore...."Ebb Tide"). I'm low-maintainance and a great chef, so I'll earn my keep:)

You weave a picture of painted serenity.

Pictured is the dark blue sky of dawn, a perfect match for the beautiful cool morning airs you describe so well.

Creative, visual and artistic. A nice poem... Mel.

This is really well done and yes we should leave the door open for birds and nature to come in from out side and smell the fresh cut grass and ocean air. I feel like I am so many different places but, yet I feel the beach or island is where I am.

Such a lovely, whimsical and peaceful write.

I was right there with you through every cup of coffee.

Love your ending:I sigh
pour my carefully allotted
second cup of coffee -
with real cream, not the powdery pretend stuff,
watch my grass grow greener
till next week's mow
and the early morning rooster
shepherding his harem into the future

I leave my door open

I am definitely an open door person myself.

Hugs, d

Wonderful imagery! You paint a pleasant picture of a pleasant place and time. Lovely phrasing with delicate descriptions of the flora and come-to-life images of the fauna. The coffee...is it Kona? If so, I'd like a cup, if you please!

Kona, of COURSE!! but that would have been wayyyy to much alliteration I think, "second cup of Kona coffee" - fun thought though ... and please join me, any morning my dear! :)Sharyn

This made me smile huge. Aliteration is aweseome. Superior syllabic structure. Impeccable imagery. And flawlessly fluent flow. :) I love it! Great piece.

What fantastic imagery! I felt like I was there.. smelled the grass after the rain... what a fragrance! The birds were colorful and graceful... the air was so pure and fresh! Thanks for having me over for a cup of coffee. May I come back again? :)
