Your writing was a powerful biographical note, the style is such that it keeps the interest of the reader in the story. Your method of narration is quite classy and enjoyable

well done

Writing one's own eulogy seems to me to be an exercise fraught with pitfalls---pride, modesty, self-deprecation---tricky things to balance. I find it interesting that you put the words in your daughter's mouth. I would have tackled this from the "I" perspective rather than "he." It will be interesting to see how others handled it. Best of luck with the voting. Peace, Lee

You are absolutely right; this was daunting - using my daughter to speak just made sense to me - I won't be at my own funeral! ;)

So, she wont read it, even after you went to so much trouble? I suppose that is understandable, and no doubt she will garner a few ideas from what you have written.
I must be a very odd thing to write one's own eulogy, but you seem to have done it very well.
Hope it won't have to be considered for a good number of years.

Thank you for reading and the generous review - well, if she doesn't read what I wrote - at least she knows what I expect; but funerals and memorials are not for the dead - they are for those that are left behind! Thank you for your kind comments.

would be complimented by the most delicious wine - complemented
I like how you place this eulogy in a framing story of the funeral, and I particularly like the story about getting to drink wine again, which is warmly funny and so unique to this woman's mother, not the "normal" stuff you expect a child to say about how her mother was always there for her children, etc. Good luck in the contest :-) Brooke

An excellent and well written euology about your mother. It made fine reading.
However, a few suggestions:
eyes, stepped up up to- delete the comma.
Looking down, or watching- comma may be deleted.

I think this is extremely well written. And it is a moving story. There were no errors in grammar that would divert me from following along, as the story, all too familiar to me, wound through the feelings and events that life presents to us; and so, you anticipate the reader's emotions very nicely. All in all, an excellent work.

This is beautiful. I was touched by your story. I am so glad ofcourse that you are not dead. I am sure this took much soul searching to find the things you wanted to say about yourself. This is well written. I understand why your daughter would want to share loving stories of you, But I also see why you would want to share this heart warming story, Shirley

This is a lovely Eulogy. I wondered at the idea whether a child or family member would read a prepared Eulogy from the one who lay in the casket. You really put a lot of thought into this. I wanted to write for this contest, but I'm now glad I didn't. This is very competitive and I would have been let down one more time. Great job, and best wishes. This is really good.
