This is a good poem that critically x-rays some aspects of the religion. The simplicity of the poem is alluring and refreshing. The style is very beautiful and makes it easy to read. kudos

This really brought back the memories of being raised Catholic. Saturdays terrified me. Of course, the mass was in Latin and that was scary too. How far from those days that we now have a hard time finding time for that so needed repentence. Great writing. joan marie

This is a very good job. Being Catholic, makes it even more meaningful. You began by strolling me down memory lane and finished with the truth. Thank you so much of sharing this.

This is a lovely, thought provoking piece. For me, it's full of vivid imagery, reminding of my saturday evening confessions when I was a young girl. My mother used to bring me and afterwards, everything would be okay with the world. So simple! I love your ability to make free verse so poetic. A great job.
Warm regards.

The title felt Catholic to me, so attracted my attention and I'm glad it did! Good presentation, touching; great imagery too;
Human Condition is a real challenge, and I think we are our own toughest judge and jury;
well written, not a thing to correct! I consider myself a "recovered" Catholic, but am glad I continued my spiritual search and found peace :-) Blessings!

Whoa, I may not be Catholic but I got this one loud and clear! "Transgressions multiply And fly upward
Like ashes on the wind" I do believe any and all of us who reach our teens after being raised in the church since our birth, should rise up and question and search until we find. It's the not finding new or again that is the worry.
Excellent as always Diane.

Hello Dear Friend! Snow day today, so I hope to write you a long message later...but regarding this offering, well, a pletora of emotions, Not necessarily autobiographical but the thoughts struck me how ingrained my own religious education was, how easily it was to be "forgiven" - and yet, forgiveness, transgression, life itself entails so much more than going to confession and dutifully saying the prayers afterwards. Take Care! diane

The "naughtiest" girl in my class was the one who was made to go to confession the most!! What a hellion she was!! I can't wait to hear from you Diane. It's been awhile.

Read this once, Mrs. KT, silently. Read it a second time, aloud. Choked up, I had to pause. Evocatively versed in poignance, this wistful poem speaks to the soul.
I'm reminded of the old saw, "Every day I grow older, my parents get smarter." My personal experience was that of extended absence from the sacraments; returning, I found myself astounded at the wisdom encountered. ( EWTN re-opened my eyes ).
You've summarized the reasons that so many of us wandered away from the Church with, "Too much, To see, To feel, To experience, To be." What a comfort to know, however, that the doors are always open; that the little girl/boy might return to the simplicity of mercy.
Be well, and God bless, my Friend.

Oh Dante! I was so hoping you would stop by for a visit. So pleased you found my offering worthy. Quite a plethora of emotions here, and I venture to say that some of it is autobiographical; some of it is just reflection and observation. Most importantly, forgiveness, to me, is more than just saying the prayers and being absolved; it has to be, and as I grow older, sometimes forgiveness becomes more difficult...Take Care, Dante and do keep in touch! diane

I enjoyed this poem. It flowed well, was accessible, and made good use of language. Good use of repetition, too. My favorite lines were: And fly upward / Like ashes on the wind . A very vivid, original image.

This is a powerful, deep, heart-felt work. I LOVED it! Very well constructed. Great free verse. Full of information, then questions.
I was raised in church (not Catholic), but say no to dogma, isms, guilt trips. When forgiveness needed in one's heart, it is in your heart to ask for it. No third parties needed. But, I do believe in the need to seek forgiveness. This is my religion.
Great work. And yes, I read it aloud. I always do!
Thank you for sharing,
Sue

Hi Mrs. KT,
A very thought-provoking poem. I'm not Catholic, I grew up Baptist and now attend the Episcopal church. However, they are all the same when it comes to all the conflicting emotions the church inflicts.
Actually, I no longer consider myself to be a Christian in the accepted definition of the word. And therefore, I've found that I enjoy church service much more! It's a paradox!!
It seems you wrote this from the heart. I hope you have resolved your conflict. It can be very destressing until you do.
best regards,
deb :-)
