What a nice Cinquain poem. This is very warm and fuzzy. Guess that happens while you are talking about sweet love.
Thank you for sharing, Beth, and good luck in the competition.

Thank you Douglas. I'm not a fan of short poetry but I'll try it for the challenge.

This is so lovely, Beth! It makes me think that you are remembering Evan and the love you nurtured over the years. I love that you invoked the sense of smell, sound (song) and the soft warmth of the candle.
Hope this does well in the contest!!

Thank you Helen. After finally winning a first place again, I'm happy if I don't win anything else for a while.

What? No bear rug? Al Martino music? A violin concerto? The smell of roses in the air? A reading from William Wordsworth or Rod McCuen? These are a few of my favorite things when it comes to wooing.

Yeah, I'd like all that. Unfortunately a cinquain only allows so much. There a violin in the picture and book of William Wordsworth poems. Ya gotta leave something to the imagination.

Understood. I sorta figured it was a shortie challenge.

I've read a few romantic pieces tonight and this one fits the cinquain requirement and certainly your words and image are prizeworthy. My words are not YOUR words, so don't take this as a criticism, but I am just wondering: what if line four began "their song" instead of "our song"? That way, the entire poem would have the candles as the object, and the candles' fragrant burning would echo the love.

I need to think about it. It was about me and that is why I said my love. Remembering indicates the love is no longer around. I was a nostargic look into the past. You may be right.
