Simply a delightful poetic creation telling of a storm brewing and the changes taking place in the natural world just prior to the moment -the reader is sharing the experience -should make it to the winner's enclosure .

Hi there Zanya, I finally put this in my notes because like me, so many are not familiar with the thunder-snow. Anyway it was wicked but so cool..
I had my husband explain this to me so I hope I get it right in the translation. This was right next to our house and this one was far enough away but coming closer. We are both intrigued by storms but have great respect and caution for them as well. It was a thunder-snow since we had snow in the morning and then it got hot, so that is why it looked so wicked. So yes, it was all real. I have other pictures in my portfolio that have the same fields and huge power lines in the background that will show that it is a real picture. Because there was so much snow this winter, it was piled up high everywhere, but melted first where it wasn't piled. Therefore the temp of the ground was sporadic and the air temp went from cold to hot so fast that this was the result. Either of us have ever seen this kind of storm so early in the season and never to such a degree of strange characteristics.
Thanks again for the sweet review and kind words for my poem. And thanks my dear friend for the gift of six stars.

Nature is awesome, isn't it? Just when we think we "know" the weather for the day something as ominous as this can blow in and yes, I know well that change in the air tells us instinctively something is brewing. Your photo is intriguing. I think I might have been drawn outside to take it myself, although I doubt I'd have had the courage! Your poem is simply stated with monorhyme couplets that flowed beautifully. The ending is perfect. Well done!

Nature is awesome. Sometimes when it seems ominous one can also feel the beauty and might of God...

Awesome. I do not however, think that I would be willing to take that risk for the resulting success. Your poetic skills are on point, you display the haunting sense of possible looming doom and destruction very well. I felt it and got a bad feeling while reading. Thank God you and your family are ok. Great job.

Great picture, Debi, and you have certainly described the effort it took you to get it. I love your closing lines. Before it got much worse, we safely got into our home
That's how I got my photo shot and how you got my poem." Hope this does well in the contest.

I am so happy you got your photo shot and got safely inside. I did enjoy reading this contest entry. Thank you, but please don't take any risks just to get a good picture and poem. You're worth way more than that. As you know I am not a poet, so I hesitate to say anything, I am probably completely wrong, but I stumbles reading this line:
Before it got much worse, we safely got into our home
Is the meter or something off or do I need another cup of tea?
Good luck with the contest.

Lol, Barb no worries, but it is in perfect meter. However sometimes it is how you start a line. You may look at it again and find that it rolls off your tongue. It really should anyway since it is the same as the others.
Also this was right next to our house and this one was far enough away but coming closer. We are both intrigued by storms but have great respect and caution for them as well. It was a thunder-snow since we had snow in the morning and then it got hot, so that is why it looked so wicked.
So you get your tea and wait for me to get my coffee and we can talk about old times. Hahaha! Or better yet, the grandkids. Thanks my sweet friend!

Is that really your photo? It's mesmerizing. I kept looking at the colors. Your description of the field looking like a gold mine was spot on. Assuming this is based on a real event, it's riveting. Gretchen

Debi, that must've been one helluva storm blow in' about. I hope all was good after that.

Your poem gave us a good feel for what you were witnessing.

I do love storms, but not so much any clean up afterwards.

Great poem to kick off the week.

Have a great Sunday.
John

I am going to add this to my notes because so many have asked about it and that is why I am explaining it to you too. No cleanup except to get the trampoline out of the field. Lol And thanks my kind friend for the great review..

This is a good entry for the contest. The poem brings chills, and the picture suits it exactly. I like especially your similes for clouds and fields, as well as the thunder.

Hi Verna, this was a very unusual one, right next to our house and the storm was far enough away but coming closer. We are both intrigued by storms but have great respect and caution for them as well. It was a thunder-snow since we had snow in the morning and then it got hot, so that is why it looked so wicked. So yes, it was all real. I have other pictures in my portfolio that have the same fields and huge power lines in the background that will show that. I had a few question that so I think I will put it in my notes. But thought I would explain to everyone that read it already. And thanks my sweet friend for the great review..
And Congrats on a lovely and deserved win this morning.

Thank you, sweet friend. I've been "out of commission" for a few weeks. On Apr. 17, Leon fell and broke his hip. First there was surgery, then 5 days in the hospital, then 10 days in the Skilled Nursing Division of the senior development where we live in the Independent Resident Section. (Homestead Hills). He's happier since we brought him home on Friday, and I can get back to a little time at FanStory!

Oh Verna, how horrible for you and I do know what that is like as I shattered my ankle and leg a few years back and they had to rebuild ankle and my foot so they had to make all parts from scratch, no weight bearing for six months so I had to spend six months in there and that is so hard. I only share that to tell you how I understand what you are going thru. I am saying prayers for you both and God bless Leon and you. My prayers will continue!!

First of all, you captured a very beautiful shot of the approaching storm. And then you captured it beautifully in words. What it looked like and what it felt like as it developed before your eyes. Good luck in the contest.

Wow, Debi, a great poem to go with that amazing photo! I particularly liked the descriptive lines,
'The clouds were black and blue like they'd been in a bitter fight
The field looked like a gold mine that was sprinkled with sunlight
Thanks for sharing your lovely photo and poem, and best wishes in the contest.
