Hello, Jessica!
Such a horrific loss shared in poetic form.
I am so very sorry for the loss of your loved one...Words seem so inadequate.
The following stanza is incredibly powerful:
He took her life, even though not his plan,

Crash killed his wife by the wheel in his hand.

Guilt, like a shadow, walks with him on land,

He and that tree, still alive where they stand.

~~~~~~~~~
How does one go on after a tragedy such as this?
Sending my positivity and healing thoughts your way...
Megan's light shines on every one of your words, as if they were sunflowers in a field of love. What a terrible tragedy for Megan and her family, and how you heart must still ache. In spite of the story of this poem, it is a beautiful tribute to a beautiful soul.
Writing this review with tears in my eyes. This is remarkable writing. The way you weave the sunflower metaphor throughout this poem is brilliant. So heartfelt and sad. I sense that you reopened an old wound when you wrote this, I don't know how you could write it without doing so. I'm hoping that the process of writing this beautiful poem will help heal this hurt. Your cousin is very proud of you right now.
    Charles that means the world to me, truly! Writing about her is, indeed, therapeutic. The process is painful, but I do find a sense of peace afterward. Thank you so much for your kind words.
That was a sad, beautiful, lovely poem, in tribute to your cousin Megan. She sounds like a person everyone would love. I'm sure her husband suffers the guilt and distress that it was a stupid drunken night that killed his wife, but left him alive. I wonder how many times he wishes he'd let her drive, or not have drunk so much. That birthmark must have sent shivers down your spine, and it was lovely that you named your daughter Morgan Lee. :)) Sandra xx
Dear Jess,
My sincere condolences in you loss. Wow, what a tribute to her in this beautiful poem. In life too, you have honored Megan by keeping her in your heart and giving her name to one of your daughters. How precious!
I, too, love sunflowers. My home is filled with them and my kitchen is yellow. Sunflower heads follow the trekking of the sun all day. It's interesting to watch how they do it.
Sending you my best today as always.
I can't help but believe that Megan did stamp that birthmark on your child's thigh. God works in mysterious ways. Thank you for sharing this post with us. It was beautiful to read and has left an impression on me.
This is heartfelt and a wonderful tribute to your cousin, Megan who lost her life while in a car driven by her husband who was drunk behind the wheel, she needn't have died that night so the blessed story goes. I loved the way you processed her death by writing this poem. I hope the cause of her death doesn't make you feel negatively about life in general. She was a sunflower and now God's greatest star is a beautiful way to end this tribute to her and the note you wrote underneath the poem caused my eyes to tear up.
