Beautiful, wonderful poetry. I'm not often a fan of free verse, and frequently feel that I'm missing the point, but here, you've created a mood and a memory that is unmistakable. You've woven a picture together of the past, and I can almost smell the fresh country air, taste the soda pop, feel the breeze.
I don't make corrections to poetry much, but I think these were unintentional errors:
and pops with start spinning
a long tale
-->
and pops would start spinning
a long tale
where grandpop used to take to me on
the John Deere
-->
where grandpop used to take me to on
the John Deere
***
I wish I had a six to give you, as this is truly exceptional. Thank you for taking us back there with you.

Traveling to your homestead is a really sweet memory. There is no place like home. But, as you said, the memories just fade into the sunset of time. Thanks for sharing.

I love this poem about reminiscing, it made me start thinking about the summers in Chicago when I was young. Such vivid imagery in your poem keeps the reader interested and really creates a mood. Thank you for sharing this wonderfully written poem. :)

What beautiful memories. I think you've inspired me to do the same and write of the coal country of southern Pennsylvania where we used to visit relatives, where I accompanied my cousin Annie on her paper route and saw my first snake stretched across the road... that sort of thing. Quoting Bob Hope, "Thanks for the memories!

My, my. Where have you been? Hope all is well.
The road you travel in this reverie is filled with anticipation and love welling up in your heart at the thought ...
'I knew we were just few hours away
From gram and pops homestead.'
and your anxiousness comes through in this free verse poem.

-Nice image, Jim,
and it is good to see you.
-Hope things are going well.
-You tell a very good story
that creates a vivid word picture
of these memories, "like a well-crafted
scarf used only seasonally" and
the "pancake roadway."
-A very good conclusion, too.
-Thanks for sharing it.

Hi JLR,
This is such a great reminder of the older days, about the age of my own childhood era. Your fine poem is refreshing and I can almost smell those sweet grasses too, as you sit with your remarkable Grandpop after a long day of farming.
This poem is a well written free verse from the heart. Thank you for posting :-)
All the best,
Senyai
