I suppose we all long for home if our memories of it are pleasant. I fear that poems such as this might be harder to find as our generation fades out and family becomes less of a priority. Thanks for sharing your memories.

This to me could so easily be a piece written by Dolly Parton,
Your writing is brilliant. Your words bring absolute life to the image shown. I wish you well in the contest

This is a very touching poem, I understand you leaving on the light, to keep your memories in view. I remember things from my childhood that bring me both joy and sorrow...but I'm glad I remember. Thanks for sharing. :)

Homestead

Hello, jlr,
Great entry for the Free Verse about the light event. It was long...a story poem very well done. It's weird, whenever I've gone back to a place of my youth it's always smaller than I remember.

Isn't that so true, life seemed so largess from the lenses of our youthful lives.
Comment from Joanne Gill-Maddick
This is a beautifully written free verse poem. Remembering your homestead your roots. I know that old house across the hollow is but a relic that fuels distant memories but that lone light I keep it on day and night. So on nights such as this I don't forget my roots. Very well done.

I really like how you used the imagery of that "lone light" which played a key role in your childhood home. I like how it flickered in the wind - and you connected it to the movie reel of your memories. Great entry to the club challenge!

Thank you very much.

"So, on nights such as this, I do not forget my roots." What a romanticized recollection of who you are and where you came from. This is something many of us need to keep locked both in our memory and our heart.

My what a beautiful poem to read in comfy old chair. There are places that stands out ----with your free verses
The flickering light, as though an old movie reel was
spinning to life memories of days gone by.
Alas, my reverie comes full circle as the moon's full face
comes into view and lights the evening with longer shadows.
