Surprisingly I read an article on New Years Day about a similar attitudes. Why is jan first celebrated as new Year .It does not conform to any significant incident like equinox or solstice. He suggested that Spring equinox is a good time for a renewal.
In our Hindu Calendar we celebrate new Year roughly during that year .Depending on the states it can fall on last week of march to second week of April..
great essay

I loved this one and the other was the same as the United nations and I had to do that to my friends and family and friends with me in my first job and I didn't want them back then because they had to be friends

A very well-written story about the changes of the pandemic brought into our hearts and the way we see the rest of our lives. We all have the expectation to have a very good year in 2021 without disruptions.

What a delightful essay! Resolving to make resolutions in spring. What a novel idea. You show yourself to be widely read and make some great comparisons. It seems to me that it is very publishable. Finding the market is the problem that usually trips me up.

Carol, thank you so much for your confidence in my abilities. I've been writing for over 65 years, so I have a lot to pull from. You are so kind with your comments and your stars. Much obliged.

SSSSSStuppendous. Thus I spend my penultimate six for the week and it's only Monday. If you post another piece [as magnificent=>superfluous] be forewarned that I may defer the review until Sunday: bright and early (i.e. circa noon). I won't even begin to cite favorite portions; in sum: brilliant. Cheerssssss. LIZ

Liz, you are my biggest cheerleader. I don't mean big in that way. Besides you look kinda cute in your tutu and shaking your pompoms. Seriously, thanks for the six stars and for your kind words!
Comment from Vanessa Newman
Entertaining, thought-provoking, relatable, well-written with a bit of self-loathing thrown in for good measure. This line made me wonder if you were waiting for the laxative to take effect or for the ball to drop or both: "I peeled an orange and ate it. I washed down a laxative tablet with 8 ounces of water. And I walked and I waited."
Love this line: " would not have been surprised if, through the magic of TV, that ball had shattered into 1.7 million pieces as it crushed the life out of those four numbers, lined like blindfolded prisoners at its base."

There are levels and types of constipation, of course ... LOL, I appreciate your reaction to this piece. The six was a bonus! Thanks for that, Vanessa.

This is a thick assortment of great thinking, ideas, and I think, invocations. I confess, it strong. In the way lively lines caught my fleeting attention, "This moment, until last night, was the single, most significant two-hour block of time in my calendar year." Wow I could ever top off that line. Wonderful.

Absolutely and Amen.
I made my usual resolutions, the same
ones I make and break every year.
I'm very consistent.
And 2021 is my witness...all were broken in
record time!!!
But now!!! You've given me spring to aim at!!
Another shot at 'getting it right'...!!
I love your fare-thee-well to the year of
'what-in-the-hell-WAS-that!?' and your welcoming
to second chances.
BUT...I can't read your lips thru your mask!
(smiles)
Blessings and peace to you!!
It will be an awesome year, (or not!!!...teehee)
Loved this!!!

I really appreciate your take on this, Judy. We've all made and broke our resolutions. But by switching to the spring equinox, I believe the mind is naturally attuned to it. We will see. Thanks, so much for your kind review and, my goodness! The six!
-
And also....there's always September 20th...I LOVE Autumn...yet another chance to get it right! It will be an awesome year!

Always the optimist! Don't change.

I believe our thoughts create our realities...happy, happy, happy!!!

You didn't say how old those two hour's worth of resolutions worked out for you each year. Most resolutionslast anywhere for three days to a months and half. In spite of that we keep making them. My resolution is made early and that is to try to eat all the sweets I was given on Christmas day before the strike of the midnight on the first day of the year. If that doesn't work, I extend it until the end of January. I see nothing wrong with waiting to Spring Equinox if that works for you. Interesting essay. Most people I know have rituals. Why should we be different?

See? You found the way to keep your resolution, and you are ready for the back-up of adding a bit more time into the equation. LOL, thanks for reading and the stars.

Hmm, fifty years is a long time to do the same things every year. I am surprised that you still kept it going. A lifetime of resolutions have passed your pen. Actually, anytime is the right time to find ways to improve yourself.
Very interesting dive into your mind.

Thanks, Lance. I agree about changing when change is needed or desired. I just put a special focus on it once a year. Appreciate your comments and the stars.
