V for vulture. I don't think I would have thought to use the vulture, but I guess there aren't very many animals that start with a V. They are very much needed. We have tons of them here in FL, where I work there are hundreds that hang out by our retention ponds for some reason. Guess lots of animals drown or something. They often come up to the windows of our building and peck at them, I guess they think they are seeing another bird in the reflection. Well done with lots of interesting facts too.

Thank you so much for reading this one, Rox, and your lovely review. I can just imagine the vultures thinking there was another bird in that reflection of themselves. Lol. Have a lovely day, my friend, :)) Sandra xx

Sandra,
I have a fascination with vultures - I think it started with Disney's portrayal of them. Isn't that weird. I also wrote a poem about them a few years ago. I may bring it back sometime. It wasn't pleasant - but... nm.
Anyway. Of course, I enjoyed this post and found it enlightening. I always do. It was really well-written, as always. *smile* And I can't believe you are already nearing the end!
Some notes, if I may:
1.) Consider increasing the font?
2.) In fact, 95% of all three species of vultures died.
--> I suggest just saying that all of them died - when you start talking about all three species that makes the reader wonder about the three different kinds, etc.
3.) Without the vultures to pick the dead animals(') bones clean,
--> possessive
4.) This drug (was) highly poisonous to vultures who would eat the carcasses. (or)
--> This drug is highly poisonous to vultures who eat the carcasses.
--> without the 'would'
--> mixing verb tenses
5.) The New World vultures are the most widespread vulture, breeding from Canada to the southern tip of South America.
--> don't need the second 'vulture' - repetitive
6.) The Old World vultures(') range extends through the Sahel region of Africa.
--> possessive
7.) Although they are normally quiet, they become very noisy when at their nest, and when eating, squeal a great deal. (suggest:)
--> Although they are normally quiet, they become very noisy when at their nest, and squeal a great deal when eating.
8.) The black vultures' are an aggressive species and will hunt and attack
--> no apostrophe, this is only plural
Thanks so much!

Yes, do bring that poem back, I'd like to read it. You wouldn't think a Disney film would be the place to become fond of vultures, most films that have them in are quite frightening. It's good though, because they play such an important part in our ecosystem.
Thank you so much for your lovely, very helpful review, Robyn. I've sorted them all out now. I really appreciated that. Have a lovely day, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

I didn't know that no other animal would eat a vulture. I suppose with all the bacteria they carry, their bodies don't last long. I knew they were not a popular bird, tho they play an important role in the ecosystem. I heard poachers would kill them because they alerted park rangers to fresh kills.

If they ate one, they would probably die from all the poisonous bacteria in the vultures body. I read that about the poachers, crafty lot, aren't they? Thank you so much for reading this one, Cindy, and the lovely review. Have a nice day, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Thank you, Barbara, for another lovely review. My husband said, thank you, as well! I'm delighted you are still enjoying them. 4 left to do. Warm hugs. Sandra :))

This was indeed well done, Sandra. I truly learned a lot about vultures. It was amazing that a simple anti-inflammatory drug fed to cows was toxic to that breed of vultures (probably other breeds as well). They definitely have a place in our eco-system. I have seen them on the roads, in the streets, in the fields always enjoying their feast. The only time I saw one up close was when I disrupted three of them feasting on the road. Two flew awake but the third decided to dive bomb my car. My windshield had the talon marks (about 6 inches long, 2 sets of 3) until I got it replaced. Well done, very informative and educational. Oh thank you Graham. Smiles, hugs, blessings.

Oh crikey! I bet that cost a bit to put right. It probably thought your car was after their dinner! I'm glad you weren't hurt.
Thank you for your lovely review, my dear friend. Your support has been wonderful. Only four left to do. Warm hugs. :)) Sandra xx

You are so very welcome Sandra, it is amazing that you only have four left, a whole alphabet, wow. Blessings.
-
There are so many animals out there, if I can find another X I might do another one later. Unless I think of something else. :)) xx
-
You could do that, and I don't think anyone would mind if you added it on at the end of the alphabet.

Now there's a thought! Thank you, Alie. Lol. By the time I get to the X again, who knows what I'd find! Thanks, dear friend. xx

As long as vultures stay way far away from me, I'll be happy, Sandra. I have seen them circling high above the ground n old western movies. One always knows this is a sign that something or someone is dead. It is amazing the turkey vulture can smell death 1 1/2 miles away. The little chicks are cute and look so helpless--amazing what they grow up to become. The info about the vultures that died from the medicine given cows was informative. Who knew that would kill them when they eat such disgusting things?
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Aw, I bet their mums loved them! LOL, I must say I wouldn't like to be around when they are. But, we have to admit, they do a great job clearing the land of a possible outbreak of more diseases. It is amazing that a simple medicine could kill them. That has now been changed as they ended up with more human deaths from diseases. Thank you so much, Jan, I really appreciate your wonderful support. Warm hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

What an informative piece of writing not just for children but for adults too who don't, like me, know a great deal about vultures. Mother Nature is wonderful supplying us with these birds 'to clean the land '-the genesis of their name is also very interesting

I know I'm a bit odd, but I've always admired the vulture. He has an important part to play in the world, and has his own beauty. You told a lot about these birds I didn't know, and different types I didn't know about. Thank you for that.

I've completely changed my mind about these incredible birds. The world does need them, but they are so maligned, it does seem unfair. Thank you so much, Yvonne, for your kind words about this one and the vultures. I'm glad I managed to add to your knowledge of them. :)). Have a lovely day, my friend. :)) Sandra xx
