Hello Sandra!
Another educational, fun, and creative installment. Your grandson is going to be so happy to receive this collection!
One suggestion: In the beginning poem all but the first two lines refer to porcupines as opposed to "The pocupine" and "Its." I would change both to plural to keep with the rest of the lines.

Thank you for sharing!

Hi Sandra, I love Grahams little porcupine...smiling again for the picture...

they really are kind of cute...and I can guess why their so vocal while mating...OUCH...OUCH...OUCH...move to the left...no to the right...get off me...there has to be a better way to do this...you need to shave...

my heart goes out to the different animals that come in contact with them...

I guess the good thing is their favorite food is wood...don't have to go to far to find dinner...

love your poem you sweet wonderful you...and love reading about all these critters...always love the pictures...but the poor lion cubs....and the dog...once again...Grahams wins first place...and your research is awesome...are you ready to throw in the towel yet sweet girl...LOL...

great job my amazing friend...love you from over here...and love you from over there...you and Graham stay safe...and take care...Linda xxoo

They are very unique and interesting creatures. I always thought that they were able to shoot the quills off of them like projectiles. They are even kinda cute and the babies are adorable. I enjoyed learning more about the porcupine with you. Thanks for sharing this informative and well written work. Well done!

That is one little critter I would never want to encounter although Jim and Rhonda did meet up with one on a deer hunt one day. Rhonda said, "It was huge! It was coming right at us so we climbed up on a very tall boulder and let him pass. He lingered in the area for a while and we watched him. He had a funny little voice like he was talking to himself. We didn't leave the rock until he was officially gone." LOL They had never encounter one before so they didn't know what to do. Well done, Sandra.

I think they did the right thing and stayed on that boulder! I don't think having one of those spikes stuck in you would be at all nice! LOL. Thank you for sharing this story, Nancy, I had a chuckle thinking of them standing on a boulder. I would have been with them. Hope you're keeping well, my friend. Big hugs, Sandra xx

Oh my, Sandra, I see that the FanStory gremlins invaded your narrative notes, the poem and fun facts were fine. I do so like learning but with this one I unfortunately already knew about porcupines. You did a great job however and it was a good animal choice. Did you also know that in some cultures their meat is considered a delicacy. Native American Indian's use the quills in decorating shoes and clothing. Fantastic job. Thank you Graham (smile), great drawing. Blessings, hugs and smiles.

I remember reading about the Native Indians using them for decorations. I must add that, and that the meat is considered a delicacy. I did also read that hunting them for their meat was illegal in some places, which I thought strange considering you can go after their quills. Though they do grow back if you don't kill them first. Thank you, Alie, for reading and reviewing this one . I've never seen one, the nearest I've come to prickly creatures is the hedgehog. (No relation of the porcupine) Graham said, thankyou! lol, he's a love. I'll check the notes out, thanks for telling me. Big hugs my friend. :)) Sandra xx

You are so welcome, Sandra. Like anything that is Native Indian, porcupines can be hunted legally in Canada and the USA by Native Indians. I have seen several back home in Canada, I have eaten them and to me, lol, they taste like chicken.
reply by the author on 13-Jul-2020
That's right, I remember reading about something else that the Native Indians are allowed to kill for meat, whereas the rest weren't. I'm not sure where it is I read that it's illegal. Every time someone is asked what something tastes like, (snake, for instance) they say it tastes like chicken! LOL, that is so strange. :)) By the way, who plucks them?? LOL
reply by aryr on 14-Jul-2020
Oh that one is simple, it is the young girls, I've done my time lol, it is to learn patience. Ironically not a lot of talking is done during this task, I wonder why lol. Oh and snake does tastes like chicken. Gophers/prairie dogs etc taste like white beef, bear tastes like beef depending on how old, under two years it tastes like chicken. Heck everything tastes like chicken, lol.

Where do you live? It sounds like fun. Not that you would get me 'plucking' a porcupine, or even eating snake. :( Okay, I might taste a bit if you gave it to me. I can say that, because I doubt very much that would happen!!!! LOL. White beef? What's that? An albino cow? :))
reply by aryr on 14-Jul-2020
LOL double LOL, an albino cow, mmm okay it tastes like beef but has the color of chicken. Since 2013 I have been all over the USA, my husband still works but I am retired. I actually grew up in Canada the in my 40s I relocated to the USA where I worked until 2013. It was in Canada that I had the wonderful experiences of learning that I was Native American Indian and learned all great adventures. Snake I was tricked into eating, the next day when I learned what I had eaten my tummy rolled and rolled.

    I can well imagine!! LOL.
You're a Native American? How cool is that!!!
(I'm getting to sound too much like my grandson, Eric!! LOL)
What an amazing history you have. I would be over the moon! :))

I think it is great that you sound like Eric, it proves that you are a young grandmother. Blessings.

Excellent as usual, and for the mating section you can make it with lots of candor as per the understanding of a child. Or you can include a separate chapter in your book , maybe the last chapter and put a warning note that that section is indeed for kids 14 years old and up. So they have a choice to skipš???

Thank you so much for that clever idea, Iza! It's difficult to know where to draw the line these days. Children know so much more than I did back in my time. It makes me feel ancient! Lol Thank you for your lovely review, my friend, I really appreciated it. :)) Sandra xx

I had no idea about a lot of this. Tree climbers, swingers, and swimmers, how interesting. The babies grow up quickly, six-months they leave the nest, wow. I always wondered how they mate and now I know, a long-distance love affair lol. Nicely done as always.

You already know how much I am enjoying reading this. I enjoy porcupines. One of my favorite kids' movie is 'Homeward Bound' and Chance the dog in it, meets up with a porcupine and it's funny. Thank you for sharing.

You are the second person to mention that film, I loved it. Mind you, I love all animal films. But that one was really lovely. That was funny when the dog said the porcupine's butt had bitten him!! I can still remember them coming out of the woods at the end and the children's faces when they saw them pets come home. Aww. :))
Thank you so much for the lovely review, Barbara, and the lovely sixth star. I appreciate both so much. Have a lovely evening my friend. :)) Sandra xx

hi there,
Nice presentation and layout: My favorite facts:
When the baby is born, its quills are soft. (Nature can be so kind to mothers!)

Also a little known fact, porcupines swim! Their hollow quills keep them afloat.

Thank you, Lobber, for your lovely thoughts on my letter P. I'm glad you liked the facts about the baby's quills being soft. The mother did too!! lol. Yes, it's surprising that the porcupine can swim. That's what I love about researching these animals, there is always something new to learn. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you. :)) Sandra xxx
