First,I love the illustration. I also like alphabet books and it appears you are writing a very good one, along with interesting facts for adults, which could make good talking points or make it easy to answer the questions of youngsters. Well executed. I have a question about the antibiotic. Is it for the hippo or have some use for humans?

Thank you so much for the lovely review, Elon, and thank you for mentioning the antibiotic fact. I have now added a bit to that sentence. It is for the protection of the hippo, in fact it acts as a sun block, which I mentioned, but it also increases the speed of their healing process when they have been hurt, or have an illness. Scientists have tried to find out how to make it, but so far have failed. So many wonderful facts about these amazing animals, I could fill the whole book just about them. Thank you for the lovely six stars, that was a lovely surprise to wake up to this morning. Have a wonderful day. :)) Sandra xx

Don't ask me why, but I love hippos and rhinos. I think they have a unique beauty that is not appreciated. They are massive animals, and it's surprising how fast a hippo can run. I've heard they can swallow a man whole. Didn't say anything about woman. lol. Loving your husband's art work.

Until I started researching them, I didn't think much about them, but now, they are among my top ten animal loves. Did you know the babies can suckle under water? There is so much more to these animals that we don't know about, I could have written a book just on the hippo! Thank you, Yvonne, for reading my letter H, and for the lovely review. I will have to look into the swallowing a man whole! LOL, they are supposed to be vegetarians! Well, only until recently when they were spotted eating the meat from the carcass of one of their own!!! Have a wonderful day, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

I read somewhere that more human deaths in that area are due to hippos. I still like them. 8-)

Enjoyed your hippo post, Sandra! Did you see all the hippo poems in our Pix Club a week or so ago? Marilyn gave us a baby hippo picture to write about. It was then I learned about the automatic breathing while in the water which is so cool.
Great picture and information!

Yes, there were some really excellent hippo poems, it was great that my letter H coincided with it. I'm so pleased you enjoyed this one. Thank you, Helen. Have a wonderful day! :)) Sandra xx

H for hippopotamus, I've regarded these in the past as a rather stupid animal with a stupid name. Appearances can be deceptive. They are the biggest killer of humans in their country. I saw one on TV that a family had hand reared and it came into their house. Another animal to join your collection. Keep well. ~Mel~ xx

Thank you, Mel, it's amazing what I'm discovering about the animals I'm researching. They aren't at all stupid, and know just what they need to do to survive. I do wonder if they know that humans are their biggest killer. Not that I'm condoning them killing us, but, it's a thought. Thank you for reading my letter H, my friend. Have a wonderful day. :)) Sandra xx

Hi Sandra. I have seen a lot of poems about hippos lately. Your poem is well done and You have described some very interesting traits about them. It's a shame that some of these marvels are being destroyed.

Man is so greedy and unkind to beautiful creatures like the hippos. I enjoyed your poem and facts for your abc book, Sandra. Your husband's art is perfect as are the words that describe the hippos. Kids of all ages will like reading and learning about these river horses. The pictures interspersed throughout the text are great, too. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
Respectfully, Jan

Thank you so much for another of your really lovely reviews, Jan, I always appreciate reading what you have to say. I get so annoyed when I read what they do to these incredible animals, they are all God's creatures and yet they kill them for financial gain. Thank you, my friend, you stay safe and well, too. Love and hugs, Sandra. xxx

I don't know how they got so big when all they eat is grass, but one thing I can tell you is it's got a great big ass! lol, I've got a picture to prove it too! LOL (the daddy and mommy hippos were laying head to tail... so when I took pictures of the mom and baby, I got the dad's butt too. lol) What a fun addition to your ABC book! I'm sure Eric will love it! :)

LOL! Susan! That is so funny! I wonder if one of my animals is one you haven't got, that would be something! lol. I think it's wonderful that you have such a love of animals. It's funny you should mention the hippo dad's ass, I chickened out of putting the line I wanted to, that would have rhymed perfectly with grass! I don't think Eric's teacher would have approved, LOL. Thank you so much, Susan, you always give me such a giggle. Big hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

Aw, Sandra, this is wonderful. Of course, I should have known the H would stand for Hippo. Some things I knew, but I learned quite a few new things about them in this wonderful write. Beautiful poem and kudos to Graham for his drawing. I so enjoy this. Fascinating.
You are doing a great job. It's sad though that they are in such danger from man. A big hug. Ulla xxx

Oh, thank you so much, Ulla, for those lovely six stars! I'm just hoping I have the mix right for Eric and other children with the facts I've chosen to highlight. The other thing is writing it so they understand. It's quite a learning project for me, too!! LOL. Thanks for the lovely review, my dear friend. Big hugs. :)) Sandra xxx
