Well said. We have the same inexplicable situation in Australia with regard to panic buying and toilet paper though I'm told that it is beginning to abate. Fortunately, there are also many examples of thoughtfulness and caring. As so often happens when times are bleak, many people are brought together - even if hugging is off the agenda for the time being.

Hear, hear. Well said. In my neighbourhood there are a lot of elderly people living and I gave each and everyone of them a call that they can send me out to get stuff for them if they need something from the store. We really should help everyone we can. Thanks for the virtual hug! Here you have one back ;)

George, thanks for the validation on this little poem. I hope your weekend is filled with Peace and Calm.

Well-said. I feel your frustration re sequestering and "social-distancing." I work in a food pantry and we've changed to doling out the food outside vs letting them come in--and telling people to keep away from one another. People think I'm brave and noble to serve the poor--nope, my main motive is to get the hell out of the house. So glad to have this site in my life--it consumes my interest and leaves me feeling connected to all whom I interact with. As I said, I am not on Facebook and don't want to be--but perhaps would be tempted if it weren't for this to keep from feeling isolated! Good job on this--you pegged the appalling situation for sure. Cheers (?) LIZ

Liz, I what gift you provide by serving as you do! We all must come to a place to face the reality that each and everyone of us is just one degree away from our house of cards to crumble. You are breath of life! I am certain that people whom you serve know this to be true...

I send you hugs from the near north Ontario Canada. I live in a small village. We reach out by phone to our neighbors and those that can go out, go to the grocery store and drug store for others. People from the big city have come and cleaned our stores of meat, frozen vegetables Lysol and TP.etc. The store has now opened early for seniors and those with health issues and limiting supplies. I think there are good people trying to help everywhere and I understand the survival mentality as supplies could stop, anything can happen. There will always be people that take advantage. There will always be violent people that take from others if they can. I pray a lot and read the bible knowing He is in control. Thanks for writing this well Done, Laura.

Luara, I am so grateful for your comments. I have many friends in several provinces, like yourselves who are living somewhat remotely. May your weekend be filled with great periods of Peace and calm during these uncertain times.

Dear Mystery Writer,
I am in absolute agreement. I understand we have some pessimists among us - but we, the positive, optimistic, folk should be shining right now. This is the time to show what we are made of. To step up and into the light.
I hope your piece will encourage others to join in the struggle - and be voices for GOOD right now. Thank you and good luck!

You writing is very good, I thought your description could have been saved for the author's note section, if it needed repeated at all. Not that it's not important, but that it distracted from your beautiful message of being a concerned hugger. Love the virtual hug ending and the photo that commenced the piece.

I think maybe God has intervened, it takes a sever shaking to move people, it's His people, who as yet, are not aware that they are God's people, need shaking, although God knows who are His, and who are not, nor do they, He's no respecter of persons, Jesus died for ALL, but not all will respond, beautifully written my, do not stress this is God loving His people, well done, Roy

Well written and with your emotions and passion shining through. The panic buying is completely out of control here too, and I find it hard to understand the selfishness in that but why do Americans need more guns? Myself, I think the 'social isolation and distancing' is going to create a lot of mental health issues before this is under control.
thanks for sharing.

Pearlm yes as if we don't already have a mental health system that is broken. ll we have to do is look at the homeless in our inter cities.

Your article is a voice of commonsense and calm reason - I truly feel for you as a fellow hugger. To have your significant milestone to be celebrated now an impossibility and to be missing all your relatives is indeed an imposition. You write very well of the bad behaviour and thoughtless actions of others that jeopardise the greater good when a community pulls together. i am so pleased i live in NZ where we seem to be a kinder, gentler (unarmed) community. I send you good wishes. Thanks for the hug - here's one back. x

LisaMay, thank you for commiserating with me if only we could melt all the guns down and make fishing hooks I would come to New Zealand and fish my heart away.
-
It seems our hearts are full of "if onlys" at the moment.
I can show you some good fishing rivers if the guns get melted... or before, when we get our freedom back. Maybe you can celebrate your 71st birthday that way.

10 stars for you and your commentary. You did a great job and writing your feelings and they aren't different from mine. It is an insane time for everyone. Keep yourself safe. Hugs Shirley

Shirley thank you for validating my angst! This too shall pass and I pray we come out of this a better society overall.
