They (whomever "they" might be) can come and take away my guns.
But they'll have to pry them out of my cold dead fingers first!
As a veteran of foreign war and the US Marine Corps I contend it is our right to defend ourselves and our respective families by any means possible.
The very first thing Adolf Hitler did in Germany when taking over power is remove all guns out of the hands of the citizenry.
And we ALL know how that worked out, don't we?

Larry, I would have given you a six for this gorgeous composition, but I have no more, sigh, sigh, sigh. But guns, I don't like very much when it makes their way into the unstable hands of unstable minds. That is the only minus point I have.

Your poem is very well written, but the second amendment is somewhat confusing...
I'm not sure I'm in favor of people having weapons as the results are often disastrous.

I wonder whether God truly blesses the right to bear arms since having them merely creates the environment for using them. Sure the O.T. supports the righteous war (if there is such a thing), but there is no mention of the use of weapons or violence in response to insult or harm in the N.T. Isn't that why Christ came in the first place - to replace violence and hate with peace and love? It reads smoothly which attests to a sound rhyme and meter structure. Thank you for sharing it.

There are places that mentions that God/Jesus is OK with weapons, you know everything in their own place and time, if you need it you use it if you don't then don't use it. type of thing. but no God is not against weapons. Remember back then they had swords too no actual guns. Take care.

Yes we do need to keep our rights. But I don'e think any one ever said they want to repeal the second amendment. Most just want to have people have the guns appropriate for what they are doing. No general citizen needs to own military grade guns to go hunting. No one but the military should have those guns. Also we have to make sure, with background checks that the buyer has no violent past history or mental illness to stop most of the mass shootings.

And all the laws they want to pass, there are already almost 300 gun laws on the books, most are not enforced. Detroit has some of the toughest and look at what goes on there.
