I thought this had a kind of rap feel about it and a beat that is not metrical but somewhat syncopated. Like the music you wish it to represent. You are right that there are a few forced rhymes here, words that are invented or produced for no logical reason other than to fit the rhyme scheme, which in this case is rhyming couplets. But really not too many.

While you are learning your art I would advise you to keep it as short as possible. Length for length's sake proves nothing. This is not too long. As I remember them discos used to go on forever. I hated the damn things.

You have certainly managed to include some of the Diso era's latest and greatest in this delightfully funny contest entry, Anonymous Poet.
Although I grew up in the 70s I was never a fan of disco.
I have always been more of a Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, and Creedence Clearwater Revival kinda guy.
I wore elephant bell bottom jeans just once in my life to my Senior Homecoming dance.
That's only because my girlfriend begged me to.
Sadly, my mom has a picture of me and my date in matching baby blue polyester pants in her possession. I hope to find and destroy the evidence before it's too late!
Heh-heh-heh...

Best of luck to you in the contest.
~Dean

Never had elephant bells, thank God. It' be fun to write a poem or story using 70s rock songs. I wasnt a disco guy either CCR, Eagles, Bob Seger , and Steve Miller. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review my work.

I loved this and would most likely vote your way! I really enjoyed the entire thing! I could gear each song as you highlighted and listed them. You should be proud of the creativity that this took to create! You've done a great job at keeping the reader entertained. From the photo to the songs. Just spectacular to stand out in a contest. I loved this one! Very well written!

I recognized some of the titles. I think you did a good job and it is totally fine to have a free verse as you weave in all these song titles to make a poem.

The rhymes and (this is an assumption, I missed the disco era altogether) titles worked into the poem seem to work well. (ask me about old country, spirituals and folk/rock)

Who cares about meter and forced rhyme??? This is a fun poem that brings out the inner Disco Duck in all of us. And if you say you were never into disco - that's a lie...Loved the different references to the songs of the era. The secret to Stayin' Alive is to to Love the Nightlife and get some of that Hot Stuff! Well done.
