Hi Diana, first of all, I want to say what a fine free verse poem this is albeit, it's so very sad. He promised her to come back, but he chose the sea above all else. Her love and hopes were all but dashed. I liked your poem a lot, and good luck in the contest. All the best. Ulla:)))

Oh, this is too sad. Poor thing. Lost love is so sad and even sadder if it's lost at sea. As always very well done. I saw no errors and I wish you much success in the contest. Rox

Hi, Fine Lady-Poet! : )
What a gorgeous piece in every way this truly is: Eye-candy, heart, mind, and soul touching, too, you've swept me up into your poignantly tender moment.
Whomever said there's no beauty in sadness and loneliness never read this.
You've painted such deeply painful imagery it became tangible within the core of my senses, and I could not quit enjoying your amazing skills every read ... this is one that will hang on.
Thank you ever-so warmly and gratefully for sharing You with Us! ~ Richard : )

Great word choices and sentences in the middle. I can feel her
heartbreak. Why did he have to leave? What was the calling of the
sea? He could have had a family and children. Now, he's shark food.
Great images and emotion. Contest winner for sure! flylikeaneagle

I don't think there's anything worse the unrequited love, mooning over someone while while waiting for them to return the vain love you feel. Well done, I like the way you head each stanza, well done, articulate and well expressed, great presentation, good luck, blessings, Roy

well, that was an interesting way you wrote that with little mini-explanations between verses. A very good tale of betrayal in free verse, ending sadly.
good luck in the contest.

Comment from Bill Schott
This free verse, Her Lover is Lost at Sea, conveys the sense of hope against hope that a loved one will choose to return. "Her heart sinks" supplies the apt metaphor to describe the inevitable acceptance of the permanence of separation. Sad.
