Yes, in the woods or a park, get rid of those headphones! I can understand the use of headphones in a "spin class" or a noisy gym; but with the natural music nature has to offer, what are these people thinking? Thank you for a very nice poem and very good message. Best wishes.

Hi, Andre;
The words are lovely, but the meaning is deeper and truer. So many people MISS OUT on so much. They are looking at their phones, they are listening to music; they fail to experience the beauty all around them.

Thank you for sharing,

~patty~

Yes, Patty, that is true. Why walk on a mountain if you are going to talk on the phone all the time? Thank you for your review.

I really enjoyed reading your free verse poem. I found it so atmospheric. The sounds and the sights were so vividly described. Good luck in the competition.

Oh yes, zoning in instead of zoning out in nature. There is so much 'music' in nature.

Great free verse Andre. Great enjambment. Nice imagery.

Good luck in the contest.

This is a great entry for the free verse poetry contest. I have yet to be able to produce a true free verse I think. No one seems to see or hear anymore due to technology.
God bless my friend.

Yes, Steve, free verse can be challenging. I worked on one poem on mountain lions for a month to no avail while I Google mountain lion videos and articles on my cellphone. It was only when I took a walk and put my phone away that the words came to me for my "Zone In" poem. Unlike my aborted mountain lion poem, I wrote this poem in half a day. Thank you for your review.

Nice, that is how inspiration should work, naturally. We definitely all get a little caught up with technology.

I loved every line of this free verse piece. I have never been remotely affected by "Walkman's Disease" even when jogging over considerable distances for long periods of time. The birds sing more tunefully and the numerous natural sounds are all in counterpoint.

Having followed the trail with you I felt that the emergence into sunlight at the summit was appropriately enought the poem's high point as well, "as we merge
into the sky."

Yes, Jim, the glimpse of blue at the summit kept me walking. I wanted to get to the top of the mountain where I imagined I would "merge into the sky." Thank you for your generous, six star review. I deeply appreciate it.

Lovely and descriptive.
I like the sounds on the walk, but its my Thoughts I wish to block out when I walk. Maybe that's why they wear head phones.
Does your brain constantly rattling around never bother you?

Sometimes, Jan, my brain constantly rattling around bothers me. Not even headphones can block that out. Inner focus helps. Thank you for your review.

G'day Andre.

Wow, mate, I just got goose bumps over my entire body! It brings back so many beautiful memories from days gone by when I lived in the tranquility of nature.

A fabulous contest entry and I wish you the best of luck in it.

People miss so much today because of modern technology... it's a darn shame.

Great job.

Cheers Fez

I love your philosophy--and your poetic turn of phrase in describing it! There is so much beauty around us. Music is beautiful also, but the idea is to not focus on it exclusively, and make room for the rest of beauty that is around and within us. You describe the process beautifully. caroline
