"...as I (cannot) speak..." << cannot - one word

You thrill us with creepy, hair -raising description. Your plot is rich and the pacing marvelous. OOOOOhhhh, such a spooky tale, and I SO loved the ending! :0)

Oops. My bad - not your fault. Heading over to change it now.
reply by the author on 21-Jul-2014
Cannot is sometimes also spelled can not. The one-word spelling is by far the more common: Interest rates simply cannot continue at their present level. The contraction can't is most common in speech and informal writing.--->From Dictionary.com...

...but I changed it anyway, LOL.

    How do edit a reply?
reply by Dawn Munro on 21-Jul-2014
Go in under "comments" on your profile page - at the bottom it gives the option to "edit reply" - the only thing you can't change is the rating, which bothers me because we used to be able to, and it's happened that you mistakenly hit something you didn't mean to. ...sigh...
reply by Dawn Munro on 21-Jul-2014
although it might be different again now - I haven't tried in a long time.

LOL - oh. Okee dokee - never too old to learn - I DO know it can be used as two words, but I didn't think so in that context...anyway, as Joey says (on "Friends"), it's a moo point. HAHAHAHAHA. You changed it already.

Ha ha, yep, it surely is, LOL! :D

It could only be you Dean... I found this to be a very well written piece of work. The language used was clever, middle to upper class English which gave the narrator a very convincing voice. I have been the recipient of many unexplained experiences in the past and a very good friend of mine is one of the worlds best read authorities on the supernatural. If you ever suspect someone has cast a spell on you, write their name backwards in a mirror. The spell will be returned to sender. And of course the moral to the story. You hit the nail on the head there my friend. Great write AJ.

This is a truly interesting short story. the author's notes are interesting as well. The piece is well written and easy to understand. The characters are well defined and realistic. Perhaps because gypsies fascinate me, I would read more of the same subject by same author, if more was written.

First, thank you for the author's notes. I am familiar with the "evil eye". It is a popular superstition. My friend had her baby wear what looked like a polished shiny dark stone, resembling an eye. It was like a necklace made of a leather thong. Supposedly this is to wear off the evil eye. I enjoyed your story. You captured my interest from the start. I liked the sequence of the story and the ending was especially unexpected. Good job.

Thank so much for taking the time to read and review it for me, JM. I especially appreciate your comment on the ending, as some have told me the ending was far too predictable. I appreciate the excellent feedback, my friend.

Thank you very much, Barbara. I wanted to created a horror story with no swearing, sex or excessive violence, and a good moral message. By the way it is doing in the voting, perhaps I should have rethought that position. In any event, I am glad that you enjoyed it, and I appreciate the encouraging review.

Thank you very much, Jax. I tried to create a well told horror tale with no blood and guts or sex, no swearing or excessive violence, and a good moral message. But, based on the way it is doing in the voting booth, I probably should have stuck to my usual formula. Still, I thank you for your excellent review and kind comments just the same.

Well written and entertaining from beginning to end, this story kept me on edge, wondering what would happen next. Wanting to be the best people we can should always be a goal with it's own incentives, but your story might prod us to another level of understanding. Great job. :-)

Wow...I expected a shock at the end.

However, you handled this subject exceptionally well.

I posted a story on FS about a pedophile priest with a similar outcome.

How is it that parallel subject matter surfaces among fellow writers?

Very intriguing.

Forgiveness and kindness, there is not enough of either in the world.

Your story gives new life to fresh promotion.

Waving that banner with you!

Thank you so much for the kind comments and stellar rating, Bill. You're absolutely right, this ole world would be so much nicer if people could only learn to forgive more often. What is the name of your story about the pedophile priest called. I'd very much like to read it.

Thanks again for the review and for your support. It is always a great pleasure to get your opinions and insight.
