Dishwater cycles round the basin drain.
It takes no time at all to tidy up
with only half as many things to stain.
Mere minutes on a spoon, a coffee cup,
an iron skillet, one ceramic plate,
a floral-patterned bowl, a fork and knife--
no pairs at all; just ones to designate
the singular condition of my life.
Nothing wrong in being single, until you find the right on to last a lifetime.
Nicely done... John

Your half life is going half priced today (just funnin' ya, David). It took me till the last lines to get the serious nature of this small poem, as you had concentrated on lists of advantages to single man's kitchen bliss. But, when you say: no pairs at all; just ones to designate
the singular condition of my life......I suddenly felt sad. Clever idea, enjoyable read!

It sounds like me as well. I live alone and don't have that many dishes, but I do have people over for dinner including my sons. I do have a dishwasher.
Beautifully written poem specially for those who live alone.
Have a wonderful weekend my friend.

We must count our blessing where we find them. This short poem with simple rhyme and even meter, describes washing dishes for one. It is appropriately designed to use simple poetry to describe a simple task that simply appreciated.

Nice! Very clever....I personally love to write poems about everyday things and life.
My favorite line is-- with only half as many things to stain.
Good, satisfying ending.

Hi David
A witty little ditty .... all the fun and glamour of doing the dishes. I'm so glad a man knows just how much we women love it and why we have always been "the dishwasher" with never a complaint. Really you shouldn't be letting ALL the guys know or a revolution of male dishwashers might invade our so precious space. I see you address your feminine side with the "floral-patterned bowl" .... and a gentleman ... you use cutlery. I see you do have a "pair" of rubber gloves ... of course this may be just a Freudian slip ... a hidden desire to be unsingle.
Even more so, I'm impressed that you are happily single AND you cook AND do the dishes. You will be a good catch someday .... so watch out!! Now if you post a poem or several about vacuuming, doing the laundry, taking out the trash and walking the dog, gardening ...... and changing dirty nappies ..... all the single gals on site will know you are the perfect man. Shhh, but I wont tell them. LOL
A great bit of fun to read and a nice 'take' on the things mundane. Hugs - Lovi xoxox

I have been here! I have felt the contentment and the loneliness. There is hope and dreams of what should be. When we aren't looking for it, it will
appear. Believe me, I know. A write that is well expressed. Smiles, Robin :)

Single life, not half life! Nobody lives a half life unless they are a nuclear atom! I like this, David, it's whimsical and fun and shows how us singletons have to be active (writing, washing up!) to stop us from going too crazy. Well done and have a good weekend, Pete :)

Maybe half-the-work would have been an appropriate substitute title. It sounds like you have it covered, I would be absolutely frantic without my dishwasher ...unless I chain-gang my three kids to the sink LOL!
Nice work - singular condition of my life - well put! :)Linda

Good poem about the dishwasher, Wife and I never had a dishwasher while Our kids were growing up. We had four dishwashers, but when they left home, we bought a dishwasher.
