Well, one thing's for sure, not many people would have done the same as you did, especially when insurance companies are considered crooks at times. But you did the right thing.

This is really interesting, Sankey, a good mystery and made interesting by your recollections of the event. I am glad you didn't lose your watch but it must have been a horrible invasion of privacy for you to suffer. Best wishes, Pete :)

Well it was worse for my wife being near her side of the room and not far away. But we are thankful for God's watch care over us.

I know that feeling of having your privacy invaded. Once when I was a child, we came home to find a window broken and our house ransacked. In later years, thieves stole the differential out of our van while we slept. I'm glad the insurance paid off on your losses. Ours weren't covered.

Hey you reminded me of a couple of times when we went out and one time we came home and as we were coming up to the front door I NOTICED IT WAS WIDE OPEN! I said a qick prayer that no one was in there..anyway we went through the open door and NOTHING HAD BEEN TOUCHED!. I think Go d Blinded anyone's eyes for us or possibly I had not closed the door completely and the wind might have blown it open later. Another time I went to put the key in the front door and...'slip!' The door just opened. probably not shut properly that day neither. Things have changed here now we always come and go through the back as we now have a garage and the cars is not parked in the front anymore. Chapter 5 of my book is about to "hit the Web Site' Beth. All about my working years or first part of anyway.

This is very well-written, and the story grabbed my attention from the start. I was so glad you had told the truth about the watch. I guess you learned a valuable lesson... don't leave cash boxes lying open. I really liked the story. :) Sandra

Thanks Sandra for your review

Your ideas to narrow the suspect list, seem a lot more likely to be right than those the police had, Sankey. The only suggestion I could make, to strengthen the tone, is to avoid the adverbs such as 'fairly' in 'fairly early.
Another well told segment, my friend.

well written, thought-provoking story. Made we wonder if I would have fessed-up...or lived with the guilt for not doing. I'm glad you carried the story on to the aftermath of the robbery. Your wife's anxiety at night and the feelings of distrust of young neighbours. Those are the longest lasting effects of such a violation and are often disregarded.

of course the other angle is unmentioned the fact that my wife has Cerebral Palsy and as such is always feeling not able to be in control of her situation and would have also felt a real threat even though the person never bothered to try and attack her or myself. The thought is enough. Thanks for the review.

This should teach us all to lock our windows and not leave temptation visible on the kitchen counter. It was nice that you were honest. If you had lied, it would bother you forever.

Hi barking yes it would have. There are folks who have no conscience about these things though; like the thief that stole from us. We did hear a bunch of houses around here got robbed around the same time as well. I did sli[p leaving that money on the counter and not locking the window might have been warm weather and not having A/c in the room back then it could have been why I forgot to lock it up. We have got a/c in most rooms now and I love it. There is another story I just thought of about the A/c installer that never paid us back for an a/c we bought through him and he had an accident and never came and installed it!

This was a very well written piece about a burglary at your home, and how it scared your wife for a while in addition to not being fully reimbursed by the insurance company. I can sure relate. A few years back we had a home invasion, where he broke in and came face to face with myself and my female roommate. I ran him off, but it still scares my roommate to think about it. This was a very interesting piece and it held my attention very well. I enjoyed reading it too. It was excellent.
