That's enough to make me cry. I feel so bad for the families of the soldiers. Most are so young, and they have to find a way to move forward. That's easier said than done. Nice job. You really make the reader feel for Susan and her lost love.

Thank you Cindy. I really appreciate your review and comments. Yes, it is sad. War is horrible but it seems there comes a time young men must go to fight. The loved ones left behind are the ones who suffer the most mental anguish.

Very well written. Touching and sweet. I wrote something kind of similar, not a poem, a flash fiction, where the girl's fiance died as a soldier. So having written about the topic I can say for sure how well expressed the emotions are. Wonderful work.

Absolutely loved this!. The picture was powerful, as was the writing. What a beautiful way to honor a loved one. Perhaps she will see him again, in the afterlife. This was a very poignant and touching poem. Great job. I wish you the best of luck in this contest. This poem is a winner!

Thank you so much for the review. The picture shows a soldier kneeling by his wife but he is transparent and appears to be a spirit. The poem is meant to indicate that he returned only in spirit. His body would have come back for interment.

The final farewell is a nicely composed poem written about the fallen heroes and illustrating the feelings of his wife left behind in sorrow and tears. Nice choice of words and a very good presentation that it could move the reader's heart.

Beautifully written and well executed. Really touching.
"Her Buddy's gone, and he can't come back.
The war's claimed another brave life.
"Don't fear, sweetheart. I will return." was
the promise he made to his wife.
He kept the promise he made that day,
but how can he let Susan know?
He longs to comfort his grieving wife
and stop all the tears in their flow." my best part.

This is a beautiful write Beth and it really is the way it is. No one is guaranteed life on this earth. Sigh.
He can't be a part of the present
and she must not live in the past.
The final farewell isn't easy
but nothing on earth's meant to last.
