Exceptional

Very well crafted poem, Beth. Strong rhymes and meter.
I particularly like the near rhyme of daughters and proper.
At first I was concerned about the line 'thus the Farnsworth line was dead', but I suppose the line would go on, even if the name didn't.
Attractive bunch of skirts, eh?

Well done, Beth.

Peace, Lee

Thank you Lee. I really appreciate the six star review and nice comments. I think, according to what I've learned about genealogy, this particular branch of the Farnsworth line would end if he had no heirs beyond his daughters.

:D, HOW true. I love your rhyme scheme Beth. Perfect flow and timing with each phrase. And very very original too. I knew a spinster once and she was so nice. She even dressed like the ladies in your photo. Beautiful poem Beth. :)) Susan

Thank you Susan. I really appreciate the review and comments. I have so great friends who have never married but it was their choice and they are not unhappy. It's those who have someone else decide for them that grow bitter. I've known some of them too. I think of Miss Emily on the Waltons whose papa chased away Ashley Longsworth. LOL

Yes, I remember her! /Miss Emily! And the teacher on Little House? So prim! I wish at times I'd stayed in art school and ventured on my own. Oh well. Too late now! :)

The poem is very well written and insightful. Parents should not take decisions regarding their children's life. In the end all the girls are unhappy. The poem is interesting to read and gives a message nicely too.
Regards, Shalu.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. Sometimes when I'm not insprired to write, I have to look for a picture to trigger something and this one did.

Oh this is so very true. Way too many times a parents forces their will upon a child to live the parents dream instead of their own. This is an excellent piece with much truth. God loves you and so do I.

You make a strong agrument, or I should say, a point in what's right which is best said through example as you did until the last verse where you begin to preach. I think I got the idea before I read the ending. Really like the the first four stanzas. Thanks for sharing. Les

Thank you so much for the review and comments Les. I appreciate the five stars in spite of the preachy last stanza. It was a little over the top, but I thought I needed some way to end the poem. It didn't sound finished at the end of the fourth.

This was a humorous and witty poem, but true. I could not imagine having parents that got involved all in my business. There comes a time you have to cut the apron strings. Great job!

Thank you Curt. I'm so glad you found this humorous and witty. I was afraid that part might have gotten lost. Some found it sad. The picture made me smile. In those old pictures no photographer ever told his subjects to say cheese. They all look angry or like they are about to be executed.

This is a very well-written, insightful and sad poem. How true that parents should not be overly controlling, especially with their adult children. All the moreso regarding such serious and personal matters as whom their children wed. The father in this story likely had all the best of intentions, but in the end his daughters were not fulfilled. Something for all parents to think about.

Warmest wishes,
Grace :-)

Thank you Grace. I appreciate the review and comments. I think that generation of men thought it was their responsibility to decide things for their children and often their wives. Today, some parents still try to be in control, but young people are less inclined to go along with it.
