Wow this is uplifting. It down right lifts you up and takes you into the clouds and soaring. I could read this all day. The accolades you received for your writing is so well-deserved and I can't tell you my favorite line cause I drank from them all and my thirst was quenched!

Hi Sharyn,

Congrats on winning the contest with this exceptional poem. It began so grim but the more I read the words the more uplifting they became. I like your word selections, the easy flow and alliteration sprinkled here and there. Well done....blessings, chey

Hullo Visionary ....

.... and, first of all, congratulations on being the winner of this Contest with your well-written and inspiring work. Actually, what you say, in different circumstances of course, is so often true to life. Some tiny thing changes sadness to joy - worry to trust - loneliness to a sense of belonging ... and so it goes on.
There is nothing to suggest changing and I thank you for sharing these thoughts with us.
Love from .... Nanette Mary.

I can see why this won the contest. It starts out with a gloomy mood, and then that mood is shattered by joy and happiness. The imagery of the 5 senses is a great treat for the reader. Congrats and keep up the good work.

Wow - you really got immersed in the strong emotions of depression. A beach of empty skulls and screaming gulls was so powerful it seems it belongs in an Alfred Hitchcock film. I agree that the uplifting is more powerful when one starts from the bottom and it's easy to see why you won this contest. I'm confused about something, Sharyn. This posting did not come to my message box. I found it by chance while perusing FS. Any thoughts on why? I never have understood how this place works. Hugs, Lou

Hi Louise - yes, it was originally done as a "blind" entry to a competition and when that happens, notice ISN'T sent to "fans", so that's why you didn't receive anything. No worries - I'm still finding the intricacies of FS myself! Glad you enjoyed the piece! :)

Now you see, this is exactly why I prefer living in Southern California to living in Detroit Michigan. It is a lot easier to be depressed in the cold city of Detroit than it is to be depressed when surrounded by sunshine, lush vegetation, beautiful bikini clad bodies, and just the overall lifestyle that is a basic part of this life. Great poem, your poem looks deeply into what a tortured mind feels and looks like. It also shows how one can emerge from that deep and dark place. Great job.

If we were never sad, would we even know how to be happy?
I can see why this lovely poem won the contest. It makes me think of the expression "Instead of complaining that rose bushes have thorns, rejoice that thorn bushes have roses"! Excellent

Congratulations on another one, Sharyn. Well done. I raced through it and loved its twists and turns. Of course, I'm partial to you and it won't let me give a six ;(

Really nice poem about how emotions can change oh so quickly and you can go from feeling down and empty to feeling full of life, nothing short of a miracle. I like how it is nature and sacred sound that uplift the mood of the despairing one. You have some beautifully written lines in this, for ex. "I stay soul cold alone, windblown half a whole" This specifically jumps out as a sadly beautiful description. Also, you are right about reading this poem aloud. Very nicely written.

Thank you so much Jessabella - I love to perform, so everything I write is basically meant to be read aloud. Bless you for enjoying! :) Sharyn

From despair to joy, this poem has it all. Love the rich play of words, the textures and sounds this poem pulls from me as the reader.. It's one of those poems you can sink into.

Lovely
