I am finally catching my breath after the jet-lag from 22 hours of the return trip from Africa. I need to find your work from February as soon as I can. I enjoyed your dramatic photograph accompanying these lines filled with vivid imagery. I also particularly liked your use of alliteration and metaphor in "a pool of liquid languid pain" and "fire's flame." -Joan

Thanks for stopping in, Joan! Welcome home! Get rested. February 's poem, Illuminated, is still accessible from my profile page. :-). I haven't been writing much!

I don't know Calvin but I do know Diny well. I hope they're all right, Jewell. This is an excellent, smart piece with one line out of kilter but an easy fix:
"I know peace beyond understanding" Just flip "beyond" and "peace" and add a comma to read: "I know beyond peace, understanding" will flow a bit better, although the meter is still off, just not as noticeably. BRAVO

Thanks, Jude. That line bugs me a little too.
    Calvin is " Darkheart"

What is wrong with Diny? Is she all right?
reply by the author on 21-Mar-2012
Yes, just struggling a bit. Life's junk. She's a dear friend.

Oh, sorry to hear. Diny and I have had some good laughs over the years. She calls me "Shirley"!!
reply by the author on 21-Mar-2012
    Haha...why Shirley?
reply by Judian James on 21-Mar-2012
Oh, when Diny was here a lot a few years back, we always reviewed each other. Somewhere along the line in one of her reviews, or mine for that matter, one of us said "surely ... (whatever) and after that, I became "Shirley" to Diny. I dedicated a poem to her
years ago on and called "Honor"

You describe so many emotions and reasons for them. This thought provoking poem is filled with great imagery. Where choice of past is wisdom gained - so much truth here. Great poem here. Thanks for sharing.

This work has reached the exceptional level

This was perfection, not only did it talk to spirit and soul, but to the part of me that believes in all I see.

I loved everything about this poem. Fabulous pic of yours by the way, the gold was your words....touching all....within me.

My favourite:

"Why do I hear an unknown song
Familiar only to my soul
Could there be healing in one voice
For making wounded spirits whole" // fabulous to ponder its depths within my own song.

Thanks for sharing,
Maureen

Thought provoking in that it acknowledges pain but allows for the notion of healing Grace still. Hope things work out for everyone.

No spag issues in this caught my eye.

Thank you for some soul searching minutes. Good read.

Inspired--exalted, even. Beautiful theme and delivery, dear Jewel. Well rhymed with abundant slant rhyming, too. Finely timed. Striking and beautiful presentation.

Especially loved the content and phrasing of the last three stanzas-

Sometimes it draws from deeper wells
A pool of liquid languid pain
A blending of all sorrows cast
Where choice of past is wisdom gained

I feel refining fire's flame
Creating gilded treasures fine
Where broken vessels become whole
Reflections of a truth sublime

Intrigued by those who know the fire
I've come to revel in delight
The joy of pain becomes refining
When combined with love and light

Exquisite--in theme and tone. Enjoyed the alliteration and internal near rhyme, too.

Blessings and Loving light, rd

I see a pen glide through the night
Within the dreams of darkened hearts
It dips in golden honeyed truth
For eloquence beseeching art

That is the best tribute to writing I've seen in a long time... stanza can stand alone as a poem to me.

Intrigued by those who know the fire
I've come to revel in delight << Yes, good writing "puts us there" and we see thru their eyes something we are relieved we didn't have to see with our own

Very insightful and perceptive work. A keeper, for sure!
