Maybe the biggest winner is someone who never gives a rats about winning at all. I think the most successful people are the ones who have found personal happiness, rich, middle class or poor. Nick.

You have defined balance in a nutshell! And you are the only reviewer who put it so succinctly. Thank you.

I like your writing. I believe you have identified a key factor in life. Having balance and contentment with one's life, tends to allow a person to feel successful in life. The moment between the grandmother and child was very touching. Such times as that are precious moments to treasure! Thank you for sharing.

I like your essay and mainly this phrase "Both laughed until they nearly lost their breaths, lost in a moment of complete joy." I do believe, both these persons were winning at the time of their lives.

A great piece of writing is one that connects so completely with the reader that it evokes a strong emotional response. I believe that the tears in my eyes are evidence that your writing has done just that. I have read a lot of writing on this site but by far this was one of the best. Powerful and truthful combined with a true gift for writing. I printed this, pulled out a frame and it now hangs on my wall in my home where my family can be reminded on a daily basis that this is what life is about.

I am so honored by the six stars and even more so that you felt this piece was worth sharing with those you love. thank you.

This is a very wise piece of prose. It garnered some great emotions from this reader. This should be read by everyone out there in the real world. You have captured the correctness of thinking in this well written short. This is well deserving of all six stars here for just the truth in it alone. This piece has effected me greatly, as it is the truth of who the winners in life really are. I thank you for posting this outstanding written work of philosophy...
Winning or Losing
In life there are winners and losers
Look in the mirror, to find who chooses
The who, the what, the why
It's all part of the ride
It's an overview of you and me
It's a cry in the midst
It's a maiden, waiting to be kissed
It's age, it's youth
There is no Superman in a phone booth
Jump in a fire
Light your desire
Walk out upon the edge
Grab the red badge of courage
Life is just what you make it
Determined by the road you take
You put the ingredients in your cake
So on and so forth
For you to partake
It's a grand and glorious journey
Or it's sadness and worry
There's an up, then a down
It's a voyage profound
It's all in your choosing
You're either winning or losing

Your poem says it all. Thanks so much for the six stars. I'm always honored and awed to receive a six star rating, but to get them from a writer as talented as you is doubly pleasurable.

Very good writing with some profound points presented.
There are different types of winners and different prizes in life to be won.

Excellent response to the writing prompt question on the definition of winning. I completely agree that winning is a complicated issue that can not be answered with a single definition. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you. I think we all have a "winner" stamped on our souls - it's up to us to define it.

A very interesting way of looking at things. Unfortunately, I don't think society looks upon the balanced existence as the winning one. I think it's rather the sports hero's professional accomplishments or the screen personality's looks that get the WINNER label. It would be great if your ideas were adopted and society could appreciate a harmonious existence as a winning one.
