Nice post, Brooke. Not one of your best,m but that is because of the ABC-list-like form. Yet your masterful muse can make even this form sing beautifully in well timed and finely rhymed line that flow together well and are strung together on a coherent and consistent theme.

Very nice.

Favorite individual lines:

D is for the dark dispelled by God of all creation
I is for the great "I am," Divinity on Earth
L is for His lowly start, no cause to feel ashamed

Favorite section:

W is for the wonder caused by one small child
X is for how exquisite the warmth when Mary smiled
Y is for the "Yes" we say when asked to give Him praise
Z is for the zest with which our Hallelujahs raise.

no nits.

Happy Christmas to you dear friend.

Blessings and Love, rd

Thank you, rama devi - I have loved alphabet books for a long time - I once went to a lecture on their part in literary history. The form seems to delight some people and put others off - I'm just one who is delighted by it. I appreciate your positive comments. Brooke :-)

Thanks so much, Skye - I truly appreciate this - one person gave me a four because she didn't see what the alphabet had to do with Christmas, so it is great to hear from people who really enjoyed my alphabet poem. :-) You are most generous. Happy two days till Christmas, my friend!!! Brooke :-)

Lovely alphabet, Brooke! It has the exact meter for a child's mnemonic, and a sweetness of tone throughout. This heathen thoroughly enjoyed it, lol.

One question: "S is for the shepherd's faith as bright as any star" or "S is for the shepherds' faith as bright as any star" - I'd read it as meaning all of them, and the T line as referring to them.

Merry Christmas!

Louise, you make a good point about the plural possessive. I might edit it later. And if I can bring a bit of Christmas joy to the heathens, well, good for me! LOLOLOL My little heathen daughter is the world's biggest Christmas celebrator. Thanks so much, dear friend :-) Brooke

Wow... I feel my eyes hungrily 'scrolling down' to see the alphabets being used in this poem, Brooke. Once I was asked to make a little 'fashion dictionary' and found myself stumbling in X and Y, but you had them all, complete, fitting, and amazing for the Christmas season.

Well done. I imagine you had fun doing this. It's a good exercise to do this kind of poem once in a while. For me, reading it, it comes across as an arduous task and a bit strained, particularly using the entire alphabet rather than a word.

However, you did keep a good rhyme scheme and meter. A couple of lines I had to read over to get the rhythm right, but it worked without sounding too unnatural.

This line in particular shows that you know what you're doing:
"W is for the wonder caused by one small child" "W" is unique in that it is three syllables, but you still incorporate it into the line correctly without losing the beat.

Thank you for posting.

Colin

Thank you, Colin - sorry it came across as strained to you. I had great fun writing it and certainly never intended any such effect. Brooke

Dear Brooke,
Wonderful paeon of praise. It is not often (in fact never before known) that I offer metrical advice to you; it is never needed. However, on this occasion I think that Line 3 would read a smidgeon better as:

"C is for the carols THAT we sing in celebration".

Best regards
Reg

With your rating I would not expect anything less. I really enjoyed this piece and I found myself wondering what you would come up with for each line. Even though it was a bit random, i quite enjoyed it.

Look forward to reading more.

Wonderful art work and how beautifully written for Christmas time this year.

This Alphabet is so special and each letter said something special to us.

The love, the teaching, the suffering, was to help save us all from hell when we die one day.

Great Writing

Honeytree.
