That was really sweet and lyrical. For some reason I heard the tune of "Hush Little Baby" as I read it. Ingenious job of incorporating the flower names into the lullaby. Lovely flow and cadence. Wonderful poem, my friend. And the picture was cute too. Reminds me of when my kids were babies, I would hold them like that and talk to them or sing to them and they would stare at me or smile and giggle. *sigh* In many ways, they were so much easier to deal with back then.

I wonder if the author is aware of a song from a movie (the title of which I can't remember) that starts with 'Hush little baby don't you cry' etc. The words of the poem here fit it perfectly. Unfortunately, the song from the movie came from a rather disturbing scene!?

Eddie, fortunately, the lullaby is far older than the movie, so I don't associate it as closely as you do with Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte. :-) And my lullaby has reminded a whole lot of people of that lullaby - I did not have it in mind but was going for the "lullaby" sound, so I'm thrilled I achieved it. I don't know how you do it. I just woke up after reading this the first time. I didn't dream about peppermint sticks and jelly beans, more like bread sticks and pork and beans. The point is, this is one hell of a lullaby.

Deb, Most of the flowers in this poem are from a list of heirloom/ antique flowers that date back at least 50 years. selectseeds.com lists and pictures most of them. Thanks, Brooke :-)
