LOL!
you can always try yelling out "SERENITY NOW" like frank costanza
though be careful with it... serenity now may lead to insanity later!
great little 80-word flash.
had no idea where it was going
an interesting and thought-provoking surprise ending
thank you for sharing and good luck in the contest!

I find myself wondering what a nuclear code is. Did you find yourself locked outside a nuclear shelter when the siren went off? Or even worse trapped inside when the all clear rang out? Either way it's a titillating flash. kay

I hope I don't find out.

We just never know, what's right, wrong, or indifferent. Insanity seems to be spread far and wide. What was once considered genius, is now, lost in the shuffle. Thanks for sharing.

Oh Lordy, and I thought my morning was bad. Radndomly trying to remember a nuclear code would be ..... well, let's just say we could all say hello to the heavens. Good one!

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I couldn't help but feel as if Joe Biden's thinking was part of this entry. I enjoyed reading. Good luck with the contest.

Jim, this is very well written. You took me quite by surprise with your last two lines asking for help in remembering the nuclear code. Here is wishing you the best for the contest entry. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much. I still can't believe they elected me President of the residents. I feel more helpless and vulnerable than Biden.

"a plea for sanity in 80 words" Sorry, but one's either born with it or not--genetic.
"He's out of his mind!" "He's cracked up!" But, could they be right? Any kernels of truth there?
"I feel like a monkey in one of those...things, you know." Zoo? Cage? Sanctuary? I really don't know.
"I lost my marbles a couple of times." I had lots of these as a child, but, alas, sadly lost most of them, too.
"What was that Nuclear Code?" Should we rather be thanking God that you've forgotten it?
Good luck in the contest.

Apparently you didn't get the memo....SHARP AS A TACK!! I've had to re-evaluate my opinion on tack sharpness...
The juxtaposition of his cognitive state with the responsibility of wielding the power of nuclear weapons, in any other context would be unbelievable.
You nailed it!

This eighty-word story, Help!, has the proper word count and presents a situation that might leave us in a bit of an uncomfortable position -- being blown to bits and burned to atoms.
This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.
The highest and the lowest rating are not included in calculations.
