People say memory doesn't go back as far as three years old. However, I remember the fear of walking, even though I don't remember how old my mother said I was. Therefore, I believe you remember the horses clearly, and your detailed description proves it. I wish you the best in the First Memory contest.

When you mentioned the "horsey smell," I knew exactly what you meant. I could then immediately smell it, myself. We had four horses, and, like you, riding them was a highlight of any given day.

Wonderful job with this memory, and kudos to you for rescuing the majestic beasts from neglect and starvation.

Best of luck in the First Memory contest!! xo

Thank you. There is nothing like the smell of horses. All animals have a distinct smell, but horses is the best.

It's a great title for this memory from way back then in childhood, the fond memory of riding a horse for the first time- well conveyed -thanks for sharing this special memory.

Definitely must have made a big impression and happily a wonderful one. The fact that you learned to love the animals and carried that love through adulthood says a lot. Good for you!

Thank you, Carol. The memory has stuck with me throughout my life. I had horses until shortly before we quit farming.

"Daddy, ride horsey," my dad would scoop me up and toss me on one of the horses." Oops -- should be "Daddy, ride horsey(.) (M)y dad...

Regardless of the typo, you have penned a sweet memory -- this should do well in the contest!

This is a very sweet and well written First Memory you have penned about your dad putting you on the horse. It could very well be the reason you love horses so much. They are beautiful animals. Thank you for sharing. love and blessings, Teri

Thank you. You are right. I have loved horses for as long as I can remember. I think that had much to do with the reason why. Thank you for the six stars.

You wrote the story of this early memory very well. In fact, your story reminded me of Little House on the Prairie. I could just picture Laura running up to her Pa as he returned home. Great job!

What a lovely memory. It's strange how we do keep memories from a very early age if they have a special meaning to us. I'm sure this one will be a strong contender in the contest. Well done and good luck! :))Sandra xx

Your memory of waiting eagerly for your dad's return and the joy of riding the horses paints a picture of a cherished childhood moment. The little details like the sound of harnesses, the clip-clop of hooves, and the warmth and smell of the horse are wonderful to read. I felt like I was transported right into that memory. I found it touching how such a seemingly small moment left such a lasting impression on you, shaping your love for horses throughout your life.

Thank you. Mom was amazed that I could remember the horses at all because I was so young when they were sold.

An excellent entry for the First Memory writing prompt. What a great memory. Riding a hose is filled with so many things that would firm up a memory in your young mind. The smells of the horse and the land, the feel of the horse beneath your legs, the sounds of farm life all around. I love the picture you posted as well. Thanks for sharing.
