Aging keeps messing with our thoughts and memories, and sometimes we remember ones that are embedded in us for a lifetime, ones that meant the world to us. In this case, he was able to reconnect that memory and find it once again. Very well done.

My heart is breaking. This is both beautiful and horrendous. Great writing. I am moving from Houston to just outside Dallas to be near my three sisters. I will be getting much more help this way, but I will still have my own place. I can help them with stuff; they can help me. I am a happy camper. Karen

I hope you received my reply earlier. My wifi is so bad I don't know if they go through or not. I ordered parts and in the very near future, I will fix it.

This piece is a poignant exploration of the passage of time, memory, and the enduring power of love. Through vivid imagery and emotive language, the narrator reflects on their journey through life, from youthful infatuation to the inevitability of old age. Good luck in the contest.

Ah, the memories of young love and romance. Even more special is old love. My husband who repeats himself when I cannot hear, still says "The day is beautiful because you are in it", and goes outside in the snow to clear my windows of ice. Thanks for sharing. Esther

I can remember when I was very young, very romantically inclined of having very pure dreams of living in a tree house, going out to work, coming home to a pretty girl I had a crush on...I was 8 years old, heh heh. This is beautifully written, what every young man dreams of. Beautifully written Jim, great job, good luck, blessings Roy

I had a similar girl friend. Everyone said it was puppy love. I said it wasn't. Then, she became a teenager and told me her father did not want her to play with boys anymore. Deep in my portfolio, I wrote a loose telling of that tale, "A Tear Fell".

Well done, smart dad

I didn't care much for him then, but when I became a father, I saw he was so right!

Yep it makes a difference

Time can be cruel. It can bless you with many years of bliss, love, children, a lovely home, a very satisfying career, a fancy car, etc. Then in an act of cruelty, time seems to without warning run out. You wake up one day and all that you loved in the past has either died or is very near death and you are left alone with your very sad memories.

The Clown is holding the timepiece is sad and he seems to be allowing you to be in both the past and the future. TIme moves only in one direction in real life but our memories can allow us glimpses of the past. IF we have happy memories and we are ahead of the game. Nicely written story. It's like a bitter-sweet nightmare.

I did receive it. I'm so far behind. I catch up and miss one day and I have over a 100 items in my in box.

I feel like that now! My internet stays on a second, then goes off. I ordered new parts for wifi. They're coming here Thursday and shortly after that, I'll install it.

This was an enjoyable read. The way you weave the theme of time throughout this piece is captivating. I love how you show the experiences of a young man at the fair. And also show his current state as an elderly resident in a care facility. It shows us the reflection on the passage of time so well. The imagery you use to describe the fair the interactions with Elena is wonderful. You paint a wonderful picture of youthful love and innocence.

Hi Jim, yes, before we know it the years have passed and a new age is upon us. When you're twenty and in love and the whole world is at your feet, it seems inconceivable that old age will one day be your companion.
Very well written and good luck. Ulla:)))
