No, time doesn't heal everything, and in many cases it doesn't even lessen the everyday pains of trauma and loss that haunt us. I read and almost finished reviewing your post when I looked up to find it is non-fiction. Thanks for sharing.

Rick, I don't think I could make this up! Thanks for taking this story so seriously. It would be her teenage
granddaughter that would be the change-maker for her and the whole family. But that's another story.
I'm sorry but the contest requires that we not identify ourselves.

I like your story about Mrs Truxton. If she was a widower for eleven years wouldn't she revert back to her maiden name?
If every person died from someone else wishing it, there would be few of us left! She shouldnt blame herself. There's never been a male too weak to defend himself. Old age took over and he died.
Many young people have died from heart attack. Ie. Priscilla Presleys daughter died young. So it was just his time.

Wow. This is an emotion-packed story that addresses the prompt perfectly and powerfully. I've always believed that regret makes loss so much more difficult to deal with... and this is a perfect example. Poor Mrs. Truxton. I'm glad her state improved... Also, your closing lines were so fitting and appropriate. When grief is this strong, it does seem like time stops...

This is a very well-told story about one woman's unrelenting grief/guilt and another woman's compassion. You set the scene beautifully in the middle of the stormy night with the narrator alone and someone pounding on her door. Then you introduce Mrs. Truxton and let us hear her story through dialog. You evoke our sympathy for her and our admiration for the narrator. Rod

I'm amazed at how many people will find some people will find people guilty of something, but then there are others who won't find fault, nor will they judge, despite grieving themselves, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Thank you, Roy, for your review. It's the barometer I use to determine its worth. Because of the rules of the contest, I am unable to identify myself. But i'll give you three guesses.

I think it's easy to understand her added burden on top of the grief due to the argument they had. What I can't understand is how someone could say to her that she would have to pay for her words oneday. Good on you gor your compassion and good luck in the contest.
