This poem, Driven, makes a strong case for the unnamed lovers prowess and tenacity while performing the acts that many of us have forgotten were so very important.

Sexy, and very, very hot -- will stand an excellent chance of winning the contest, if I know these judges.
"A vice that knows no limit,
beyond the reach of brakes
or reason." -- my fave. :) Best of luck!

Enjoyed all the car, driving, and car mechanic references. I am not certain if all of it is metaphor or if the narrator is really in love with a car mechanic. A great way to show the effects of love. Best wishes in the contest!

Huh? Do you think it's a little warm over here on your side of the building? All of a sudden I am feeling over heated. Oh, maybe it's just your poem! So now you are going to hear a Minnesota response to your poem..... Oofta, that was such a hot dish and awesome free verse. Did I love it? You betcha! And no, we don't really talk like that but a lot of people think we do. Hahaha!
I am sure your husband enjoyed your poem. You did show it to him, right Jess? LOL. I loved it and it's the one thing I do not do enough because I just have a hard time letting go of my rhyming poems unless I do one of Gypsy's club events.
Anyway, thank you so much for sharing this and good luck in the contest. Looks like a winner to me. Take care, my sweet Jess! Love, Debi

LOL, sorry I was being such a cornball when I wrote this, but for some reason I was in a screwy mood and your hot free verse just got to me. It was so sensual! I loved it!

Well, this will be a very memorable verse for the contest! An original and intriguing extended metaphor capturing this inexhaustible (sorry about that pun) love affair that leaves the reader feeling more than a bit envious:)) Well done and good luck! Debbie

The extended metaphor of the elite sports car is a great way to describe the drive and passion being evoked here. I like the way you incorporate different senses to enact the experience of this great love.

Oh, what a wonderful, sustained metaphor...sizzling sensual and with sweet kisses of alliteration that serve to idle that engine with a romantic "rev" that makes me stop, smile, and dip back in to read once again and enjoy!
"He is the driving force
that propels me forward,
and keeps me coming."
Nothing else needs to be said!

This is well-written with imagery and sensory details that bring a love alive. I thought it flowed very well. I very much liked the idea of what would happen in 'the shadow of his leaving.' The idea of not being able to sit still definitely is what a love connection will inspire, too. The car analogies were fun and possibly something a male reader will relate to as well.
