What a lovely tribute to someone who has experienced pain and suffering. Then to see the beauty of love and friendship and respect her fellow students have. Very well done.

This is a very well-written poem for this contest. I think it could do well. The story of perseverance comes through loud and clear, and you offer it in the context of school through the vision of a fellow student. I think that is what makes it effective. Terry.

This is is so horrific, for anyone, let alone a young person to go through, but like you I felt immensely proud of her as you explained how she did her very best to overcome her difficulties. She definitely sounds like a fighter. A well written piece.

Moral to the story: NEVER underestimate a redhead!!

This had to be so bittersweet an experience. These are the times when it's so painful to be a teacher, because the "good ones," --and there's no doubt in my mind that you are high up on the list in that category-- don't just have "students," they have "loved ones."

This is a gorgeous, heartwarming story/poem. You have done an outstanding job. (Are you still in touch enough with her to share this?)

Yours is the last entry on the list, which means they "saved the best for last." Definitely gets my vote. xoxo

Thank you so very much! Alas, it's been some years since I've seen her, but I'd like to think she wouldn't have an issue with me sharing this.

Oh, gosh, no! She'd be THRILLED at this memory you have...and the pride and love that accompanies it. What student wouldn't feel cherished by that?!!

Good one. I can see this unfolding into a terrific story if you decide. When respect abounds, love is near. No pity but real. Thanks for sharing your story poem.

You set the scene very well, describing the newcomer to your class. The story takes off immediately when she is hit on the road and spends months recovering. What a powerful and poignant ending when she returns to the classroom. This story poem is terrific and should be a strong contender for the red ribbon. Rod

What an amazing story and you tell it beautifully with your blank triplets. Your choice of vocabulary and the circle the pome goes on is engaging and heartwarming. Well done and good luck in the contest.

It takes a very brave person to come back from a nasty accident such as this, and carry on determinedly as this brave girl did in your poem, she is certainly an inspiration, this is beautifully written, my friend, blessings Roy
