This is an excellent non fiction story. I enjoyed reading it. Your entire presentation is good. You use descriptive words that draw in a reader. Others will relate to this for.remenbering their own hometowns as kids.
Best wishes!

Thank you for the stars and the great review. Shelby was a lovely place to grow up in.
Comment from Wayne Fowler
Very nicely done. Good salesmanship.
I was born in Buchanon, (Potowatomie Hospital in Niles, actually).
I lived in Dowagiac, Pine Grove, Portage, and Gobles. We played at the Dunes on Lake Michigan a lot.
Unfortunately, we moved to California when I was 14.
Good luck in the contest.

Thank you. I can't imagine living anywhere but Michigan. I was in Indio, California one time, and I hated it. I was so glad to see Michigan and have never left the state again.

Northern CA was much, much better than the south megalopolises. I built a house in Willits, a tiny town.

Wow! This bucolic small town sounds ideal. Though I live in Chicago, I have never visited Shelby. Your description of the town itself (that of the 50s and now) paint vivid pictures. I can see why you would want to return home one day. Rod

Thank you. I live in Hesperia, Michigan, but I spend a lot of time In Shelby. It's only about a half-hour drive from where I live. My two remaining sisters live in Shelby, and I will probably join them one day.

I hope you can join them soon.

This is an absolutely beautiful word portrait of Shelby, Michigan. Your perfectly written description is filled with love and a deep appreciation of the beauty a farm town can provide. You thoroughly cover all the important aspects of Shelby, including the people, schools, roads churches, and history. Well done. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you. One important aspect of Michigan I forgot to mention. We do have a tonado now and then, but the really vicious storms seldom hit Michigan. We are somewhat protected by the great lakes.

I was thinking as I was reading this if everyone who responded to your invitation tho come live in Shelby, Michigan, you may no longer have a peaceful, restful and gracious little town any longer, I'd keep it to yourself, heh heh. Great post I really enjoyed the imagery and like-ability of this charming place, well done, good luck, blessings Roy

Thank you. You're right. I think the reason more people don't settle in Shelby, Michigan is because most major industrys are a long drive away. We have the seasonal work and Peterson Farms, but none of this work pays what the big factories do. Most of the jobs are filled by migrant workers or other Mexicans in the area.

A heartfelt tourism brochure. It really could be made into one. Check with your chamber of commerce. You spoke of the past with the same love you spoke of the now. If I was looking to relocate, and saw your story on their website, I'd move there! Well done.

Thank you. I think the reason more people don't locate in Shelby is because it is basically an agricultural community. The high paying jobs are in the city like Muskegon or Grand Rapids. There is plenty of agriculture based work, but it doesn't pay like industrial work.

Retired folks, and those that could work at home would do well there.Karen
