Sister friends are sometimes closer than biological sisters.
You have an excellent narrative voice. Feelings of friendship and a bit of mischief come through at the beginning. Your concern and love come through as the story progresses. This has to do well in the contest.

You are so right about the long pieces. I'm forcing myself to keep my current novel to 900 words or less per chapter. It requires leaving out some great details.

A wonderful and heartfelt story of a lifelong friendship. So sorry Sandy's life was so difficult. She has one thing going for her, your devotion and friendship. Good job in setting the scenes with strong imagery.

Thank you. Sandy is a wonderful person. I don't really know why she could never stay with another man. It doesn't matter, I love her just as she is.

Thank you. I think a lot of little girls have unreal fantasys about llife and men. My mom and dad were very close, so I figured all marriages were like theirs. I had a rude awakening with my first husband.

Thank you. Sandy and I are still best friends today. She had a tough life, but she has stayed cheerful through it all.

Sadly, in life things never seem to turn out the way we would have hoped. But luckily, many seem to find a food substitute and move on, somewhat happily. All but those like Sandy who aren't willing to settle. This is one of those stories that most everyone can relate to, if not for themselves, for those they've known. Outstanding. Thanks for sharing.

This is a fine write about a genuine friendship and connection that was made from a young age. I have a friend I have known since I was 8 years old and we are good mates to this day. Maybe the fairy tale (come true) is in striking up a friendship that would last across marriages, moving houses (even towns), and tragedies. Not everyone is lucky enough to forge such friendships.

I enjoyed hearing about your relationship with your friend Sandy, and of the diverging and merging of your paths along the way. Your writing style is very readable.

Thank you. There is nothing like a forever friend. Sandy is probably closer to me than my own sisters. We spent most of our young years together.
