Reading this made me homesick. Austin, South Padre Island. I love the strip poker one. Why waste time! That was smooth. And the medical building one was genius. And it came with a car bonus. The retreat one was settled by all agreeing it was the wife's fault. That was a hoot and all too real. Though I have to admit I don't get the "run" part. Not sure how it ties in. But then I'm not a poker player.

Sol, thank you for the six-star review, very generous. The run reference was intended to give the impression my friend Don should run from his wife Sarah, as she might be chasing him with a frying pan for playing in a high dollar poker game, and not protecting the check. Terry.

An interesting set of cameos. The subject matter is a magnet for special stories. The flow of these pieces is good. The images are clear. The narrative stays on point. The presentation is good.

Thanks for a good read.

Well, I think this is less about poker (a game I know too little about) but more about Kenny Rogers' song which you illustrated beautifully with your stories! That was fun. But did you get Ric's okay about telling the Fanstory world about his tournament? I didn't think that was public knowledge.

Helen, I don't think Ric cares that anyone knows he plays poker. I did tell him I had created the contest in his honor. He replied he wished he had time to enter a story. He rarely enters a contest, but he said he would have made an exception for this one. Terry.

I'm glad! Bill Schott is also good at poker. I hope he enters!

Dang, you took my Kenny Rogers adages, yet brilliant minds do think alike. Lol
Mine are already down, so I will still use them. I don't doubt that many others will too. This was quite the story and I like that it wasn't just about a poker games but many stories put together to make one. I love how you led up to the big game and ended up on the South Padre Island with time for some recreation poker. Love how the game ended up but hated that he lost the money in the laundry. Which is the same of course as if he never won at all. Too bad. However, if I won money like that, there would have never been a second thought that I would have that check tucked away and not be so careless with it.

Oops I have just become the reviewer that I don't care for. The one who has to tell what someone should have done. Oh how I hate when people tell me how it should have gone. Especially when it is a little fiction or when it nonfiction and was another person who did it. and not the author that they are talking about. What the heck were they supposed to do about it? Like you could have kept him from being careless with the check. Duh Anyway, your story is great and cleverly written and oh how I miss reading your awesome style of writing. So smooth and always interesting. Brilliant!

Where have you been? Seems like a month has past since last seen.
Back in '72 while in the Navy Weather service we played penny poker beginning Friday after chow until Sunday with cases of beer and a three raise limit. The worse loss over the weekend I rember is $45 bucks

Well, Kenny Rogers' song is all I know about poker. Your anecdotes are interesting, but you lost me on the 'seven card stud, deuces up,' etc. Did you really get to choose a Mercedes to drive? That's cool. I hope you get some good entries in the contest. Carol

Yours has been a lifetime of relationships and stories. Three or four more good ones here along with a dollop of Kenny Rogers. Seeing your name was already a good bet for fifteen minutes or so of entertainment I could count on. Until I get all the kinks worked out of pubbing my four books of the Trining series and complete the last chapter of the fifth, I won't likely be doing much contest entering. It's enough to keep up with my reviews so people here won't forget me. Be safe, friend!

The problem with Sam's argument is that cash would not have been damaged by the wash. I have on more than one occasion left cash in a pocket of some article that got washed, after the money dried the cash was still spendable. In fact who would not like crisp, clean money?

Well you learn something new every day. Now I know a lot more about Ric, and where he went on his recent holiday, but was it really fair of you to reveal to us all what he had told you about his private life? I much preferred the other vignettes, especially the one about strip poker - worth remembering that! kay

LOL, Kay, Ric said he was sorry he would be tied up for two weeks as it was one contest he really might enter. Thanks for reading. Terry.

I on the other hand can't enter, as I know ziltch about poker, sadly. k
