I'm sorry your beautiful sister, Kelly, is gone. It's unfair how such a child full of life and wonder should grow and leave far too soon. I will think of your sister when I see fireworks from now on. She shared a birthdate (mo and day) with my husband. May she rest eternally in God's Loving Arms. Best wishes.

What a poignant story in a poem documenting the tremendous hurt that results from the loss of life of a dear loved one. I am about to post my own free verse dealing with a very similar subject. I hope you have very good luck with your entry. If yours should prevail as a winner I will not be sad or disappointed. I promise.

Hi Jessica,
This poem shows a sad memory for today. It also shows the freedom of childhood and how that freedom can lead to bad choices. I am sorry for your loss. The repetition in the poem strengthens the emotion. You have good line breaks also.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Good luck in the contest.
Hope you enjoy fireworks this year.
Joan

This was such a sad, sad story about the loss of your sister. I am dreadfully sorry for your loss. You did a beautiful job honoring her memory and memories that the two of you shared.

Thank you for sharing this tribute to Kelly as a contest entry. The emotion I had as I read touched my heart as tears filled my eyes. This is an excellent entry and I doubt you'll need it but good luck with the contest.

This is beautifully written, Jess. You take us through the happy and the sad 4th of Julys with your sister by your side until the final one when you are flying home, and she is above you igniting the heavens, as the fireworks below are igniting the skies for the observers on the ground. So sad, and yet so poetically and beautifully told. I loved it! - Jim
