The sun still rises, it's true, but grief is a journey that takes us through many changes and many sunrises. as we wait for relief. And then relief tiptoes into our days, mercifully. And we are grateful when it does, signaling a new beginning.

Simple language for a complex theme. Your words and imagery are so effective and starkly stated, especially in your second stanza. The image of time and a new leaf is brilliant. Well done.

If is a long hard journey when one loses a loved one, and pets are frequently closer than family or friends. Always there, always loving, never judging, just loyal and faithful. I hope that when the sun rises each day you will remember the sunshine and love she brought into your life, and be filled with happy memories of her.

I can totally understand that you are still grieving, Jesse! Sunny was so important to you and such a big part of your daily life, that her not being there is grief that can only be muted eventually. I missed our cat for the longest time and thought I couldn't bear to have another because of the fear of loss again. But Patch came and adopted us. So I hope you will let another sweet cat adopt you. Don't wait as long as I did.
You're right the sun keeps rising and reminds you of her Sunny disposition. She'd want you to be happy and knows you'll never forget her.

I'm so glad as you grieve you can turn to writing as a method of expressing your sadness. This is eloquent. I especially found:

"Time's sweeping hands
Turn a brand new leaf"

~~ to be a powerful image.

Not one of us escapes loss... Each of us must take as long as we need to process our grief.

Sunny was such a ray of sunshine for you! I have to believe you were that for her as well!

With every dawn may your memories become sweeter and your sadness abate.

Good for you, Jesse. Yes, the sun does still rise and, soon enough, every memory of Sunny will bring you smiles and not tears -- and, yes, I can say that from personal experience. Of course, even though Tigger's been gone for eight years, I still called Annie by his name yesterday.

I love the turn your poem takes, indicating that what once just brought grief now mingles grief with smiles. I love how you sum up your evolving, melding feelings in the last two lines of your first two verses, and the entire third verse.

The only thing that would have made this better for me would have been if it were accompanied by a picture of Sunny, but I fully understand it you weren't ready for that. I posted poems about each of my parents when they passed, accompanied by corresponding photos, and it still throws me when I go through my portfolio and see them staring back at me.

I'm so glad, for your sake, that you're making it into the recovery stage of grief.

The fact that your fine poem speaks universally to the grief experienced at the loss of a loved one is what makes it so good, Jesse. The clear imagery and tone herald a sunny day is coming.

And Sunny was very special to you. Many thanks for sharing today.

Yes, Jesse, life goes on despite one's sadness.
Your poem flowed smoothly with good rhymes
and a true message. I understand how much you
miss your precious Sunny. She will always be a
part of you though. She's in your heart forever.
Take care, Jan
