This was a great letter to include in the journal for
your grange's. I enjoyed reading it, Barbara. You
gave readers great info on the girls' dad, then
brought it forward to current time. The lessons
learned were/are impactful with great inspiration
to all things in one's life. Your girls will easily
understand the messages
Thanks for sharing, Jan

These letters have been so interesting. These prompts give you a framework, but I'm glad you're thinking of adding more. I think 14 and 12 are good ages for your granddaughters to see the letters. I loved the way your son responded to the coach: "Sir, I'm a football player." His background as a military kid was showing there. Too bad he had that injury was he couldn't play in college. My nephew's daughter was in the third grade and playing volleyball in competitions. I thought that was young to be starting. I'm so glad you're posting these. judi

Thank you for the support. I have an old volleyball injury that causes problems today.

Hi Barbara. I awarded a six because in my opinion this letter is perfect to be read to the girls now and/or for them to read at the ages you determined.

As I wrote of chapter 3 being much over their head at either age, this was perfect. And I'm positive they will love the story about their dad!

Great posting...
John

This is really good because it gives detail pertinent to their father, and shows his special qualities and it reveals his individual values and character.

Dear Barbara, I'm glad to review you at last - and my first remark is to admire so much your attention to detail, with constant reediting until it's perfect copy. Then it's great to read the biography of your family, for whom you obviously care so much.
'Peewee soccer' is unknown in the UK, but some of us are avid American Football fans - so, not entirely clueless. I have friends in Slidell LA, watched the Saints with them in the 80s and still feel a certain affiliation with their team.
What a great character is your dad: 'Sir, I'm a football player," takes some courage and determination when you are only six. I felt real disappointment when you explained why the knee injury curtailed an even more exciting career in the game. I played lawn hockey at College until the total rupture of an achilles. Six months in plaster meant I could walk and run, but hockey at that level was never an option again. Your father must have been devastated. Nevertheless, the determination he showed for the game seems to have spread into every part of his adult life - he really is a hero- and it was a great honor to read his story.
Thank you.
Paul

I know these letters will be cherished by your grandchildren. Are these two your only grandchildren? I'll bet your son was really upset over the injury that didn't allow him to play a sport he loved in collage. I got a laught at what your son at six said to the coach.

Thank you for the support. No, I have a total of seven ranging from 26 to 3. These two are the youngest and it was their parents who suggested I do this. I am in contact with the other by weekly text messages. They're teenagers.

What a great story, Barbara! I admire your son's spirit! He knew what he wanted, and he proved that he was ready and willing to do all it takes to be the best football player. He obviously took that spirit into all he does! Thanks for sharing! I'm sure his daughters will be blessed to read this!

A short chapter but very good addition to your granddaughters' book. I especially like your son's nickname: geehunk. How fun. It's hard for children to imagine their parents as children, I think. It was for me when I was younger.

Sending you my best today as always.

Yes, I understand this. I played for my high school in the backfield and also suffered a knee injury. It cost me my speed and was no good after that. Thanks for sharing. I like the photo.

A fine story Barbara and loved the moral to this tale. Your American football is very different to the English version which I think you call soccer over there, much enjoyed, love Dolly x x x
