What a great idea, Barbara! I love it, and as always, your writing is clear and concise.Your granddaughters will treasure these words of wisdom, and they are also an historical record. Well done!

Thank you, Barbara, for this very thoughtful and insightful chapter. I have almost exactly the same list in my head, except that I would put, somewhere near the top of the cons, 'Internet Pornography'. In a recent academic Christian magazine, the authors stated that in their opinion, this subject is 'the greatest threat to the Church in the 21st century'. As a minister and a counsellor, it seems to be getting worse, not better. The fact that you're never satisfied with your writing is the first step to becoming a great writer! Best wishes for the future. Paul

Oh yes, there are definitely positives and negatives, as you say, the positive is the incredible art access, information about a wide variety of incredible subjects, communication with friends and family, and even virtual friendships, beautifully written Barbara, blessings Roy

This was an excellent list of pros and cons, Barbara. I agree with all of them. I've already seen some of the addiction potential in my 7-year-old-grandson as he seems to want to spend most of his free time playing games on his tablet (which his other grandparents bought for him). We were always leery of that, especially as his own parents have been pretty lax about limiting his screen time. We have given our son some advice about that, and they have taken it away completely for a while. When he eventually gets it back, I hope they will have put some parental controls on it which will limit his usage. Jim

Thank you for the support. My son and his wife restrict the amount of TV time and the shows. I am pretty sure they will do the same for the Internet when the girls get older.

Well written, Barbara, and so very true. That is why my husband and I are now on a remote beach on a small island in Thailand, Koh Phangan. No power between 6 and 8 am, cold water and, besides the locals, only five other travellers staying here. It gives me time to think and breathe. Too many people are addicted to their phones and prefer to be on their phones rather than talking to the person beside them--a sad reality. Jacqueline

You're right about the Internet being both a blessing and a bane. Wise words in stating there has to be a balance. It will be interesting to see if the future generations are addicted to the Internet or use it only as tool because something more interesting comes along. Great list of pros and cons.

I'm glad to see another one of your posts about the letters and things you're writing to your d
granddaughters. This is so exciting and interesting to me. I had a much much older father and being the youngest of five, age differences and different generations really impacted my life and perspective.
The changes that occur as you mentioned, with the internet, will be with your granddaughters for life, I would imagine. I believe you've perfectly expressed the value of the internet and at the same time, you've also given them something to think about, a decent warning and expression of what their grandmother felt was important. They will knows even as teens, that their grandmother valued time doing other things in your life, too. You've written this realistic view of the internet's purpose and value and your granddaughters will be better off and more prepared among Society, due to your love and foresight. They will forever have this message about the internet that you gave them, tempering the significance of the medium i n their lives.
Excellent writing! Best wishes to Your Family!
