Oh my goodness, you really have done it this time, Tom. I was so surprised that you devoured what you did. As Doctor Stanley says -you will reap what you sow. And you definitely did sow. Now you are sorry! Very good job and greatly enjoyed. Blessings.

Hello aryr,
I really don't know what I was thinking. I guess on the one hand I must have thought that I didn't want it to go to waste, I don't know. It actually could have been much worse than what I suffered. I was glad that I didn't have any cole slaw to go with it. Thanks so much for the fine review and comments.
Have a blessed day.

I'm a slower learner as well, and when it comes to food, I know what certain thing are apt to do to me, but when I hungry my brain doesn't work. Of course, if I'm overstuffed it doesn't work right either. I got a chuckle from you delayed reaction.

Hello Beth,
I don't know why I insist on playing with dynamite at times. I'm not stupid, or at least I don't think so, although my actions might bring that into question. At least it wasn't as bad as I feared it might be.
Thanks so much for the great review and comments.
Have a blessed day.

You poor thing. Pardon me while I laugh. I think what you suffered is worse than the usual result. Funny about the thunder. Next time you cook beans, put a pinch of baking soda in the water, just a pinch, and that will solve the problem.

Hello Yvonne,
You know, I tried the baking soda trick before, but no one told me just a pinch. In my mind, if a pinch is good, a bunch is better. Not so. I don't recall if there was an issue with gas after that batch of bean soup, but I do recall it was so salty it was almost inedible. I would like to think that I'm getting wiser as I age, but the facts don't seem to bear that out.
Have a blessed day gal.

Just a pinch will do it.

Surprising for a guy who likely has eaten bear, seal, and other diverse edibles. If I had any of those my toots would be felt on the Richter scale.
You are a braver man than I.

Hello Tom,
I guess back when I ate, or attempted to eat some of those treasures of the farm, my constitution must have been stronger. I seem to recall that it was a fairly common issue for everyone on the farm to suffer with gas though. One fellow used to fart unapologetically during the church meetings. For some unknown reason, a gal named Gretta sat behind him every meeting. She used to take a box of kitchen matches with her and periodically she would strike one and wave it in the air. I would have just moved myself, but perhaps she was taking the "death to self" message a step further. No doubt when she gets to heaven, she'll be surrounded by sweet mountain air.
Have a blessed day.

Gretta can only hope that the man up front isn't settled in the same heavenly zip code.

That's funny Tom! Maybe if you fart in heaven it smells like cotton candy, who knows?

Well, I guess we can thank you for not giving us the details, lol! Not sure if the culprit was the pork or the beans or a combination of the two.
Well written and witty, Tom. Hope you get to feeling better soon. Maybe a salad for lunch today?

Hi Pam,
Yeah, I really didn't spend too much time diagnosing what the culprit was, I'm just glad that the worse is over. Salad does sound good, maybe some oat meal to help scour out the insides. One lady on the farm used to drink a concoction of something with pumice mixed it. She had digestive problems. I suspect that her insides were squeeky clean. I might need to try that myself some day.
Have a blessed day gal.

Not the best combination of food here Tom but the worrying thing is not the Sauerkraut and beans, but the pork! You should always make sure that pork is reheated properly otherwise it can cause food poisoning! You made me laugh here, I never eat any of this kind of food, but I expect when you are hungry, you eat anything, love Dolly x

Hello Dolly,
thanks for you fine review and comments and your concern. I heated up the stuff in the microwave. To date I've never had any issues with food poisoning, but I suppose there is a first time for everything. I have to say gal, even when you're hungry, there are some things that you just won't eat. A case in point was the bear liver mush they tried to serve us that first day on the farm. Unbelievable. Have a blessed day my friend.

Bear liver? Oh my goodness! Although it would have been full of iron which is good for you. Nothing for vegetarians then? Love Dolly x

This is a very cute and amusing story...well written with good detail. You also did a good job of gently hinting at what you were referencing without getting too graphic. Enjoyed much.

Hello Jane Jane,
thanks so much for the great review and comments. I'm so glad you enjoyed this offering. I don't always make the best decisions, and then afterwards pay for my lack of wisdom.
Have a blessed day gal.

Lol! Thank you for sharing your mad scientist gastronomic experiments, Tom! I'm glad you survived (not like the Hindenburg) and hope you had a good supply of Gas-X or Ginger or peppermint tea to soothe your digestive tract afterwards!

Hello Helen,
yeah, the Hindenburg was a tragedy that far exceeded my little bit of discomfort, but it was what came to mind as my guts were rumbling and the bloating was getting to extremes. I could just envision a major blow out, complete with flames, but then, I do have a vivid imagination. Thanks so much for the great review.
Have a blessed day my friend.
Tom

As George Takei would say, "oh my!". Seriously, though. That's what happens when you think with your stomach instead of your brain. Though maybe people should think with their butts, considering that it's the outcome that we should be thinking of when we make our meals.

Hello IBD,
Yes, there wasn't a lot of forethought before I started eating. One or the other probably would have been fine, but to eat both, well.. it was kind of stupid. Thanks for the thoughtful review.
Have a blessed evening.

What a wonderful read, very humorous, though I will admit I got a bit confused when reading," I glanced into the refrigerator and saw a small container of sauerkraut and pork left from a few nights before." and then
"Well, what's this? Hmm... no sense in letting it go to waste." by naming what you found I assumed you knew what it was, none the less I enjoyed this read very much****kahpot

Hello Kahpot,
Thanks so much for the fine review and comments. It took me a minute to realize what I had before me, but once I knew, I had no excuse for combining the two. Live and learn I guess.
Have a blessed evening.
