Such a sweet paean to your good friend who sounds like one of those remarkable people who really make the world a better place. You can tell that just looking at her picture. A very good poem, Debi. Jim

What a beautiful poem, Debi. You never cease to amaze me with your selflessness and pleasure in rejoicing in others' lives. Your rhyme is elegant and to the point, and I enjoy all your work. Best, JohnC

Beautifully penned and illustrated story of your Lisa! My goodness, she looks like you. She certainly acts and loves like you. Twin angels in disguise.

Typo: for them [I'd] always pray. I would always is past tense and fits better here.

Sugar sweet poem in tribute to Lisa. Sending you my best today as always,

Oh Honey, I just found out there was a verse missing and I don't know how it happened. Please read one more time, and it will make more sense. I will be back to thank you in a bit.

Hi Sweetie, sorry about that irrational response before, but I had just realized that people were reviewing and somehow the one stanza that made the last lines all make sense, was missing. Someone stole it?! Lol.

Thank you so much for your lovely review and kind words for this poem. She had her another surgery on Friday and is doing well. But the main thing is that this friend who reminds me of you, is forced to slow down, and enjoy her life better now. Its kinda funny, but two of my sweet Angels are in
Florida, as that is where her daughter lives and is staying with her while she mends. In fact, I had no idea until her surgery that there is a Mayo Clinc in Florida too. How long have you had one? I know ours was the first and that Arizona but I wonder how many others there are?

Anyway, thanks again, my other sister in Christ and my terrific sunshine friend. .... I think I have to keep that line the way it is because I never stopped praying for them. Once you are on my prayer list, it is hard to get off of there. Your family included.
You never let me know how your appt went last week. Please email or pm me to let me know. Miss & Love you dear friend.

You're so very welcome! My pleasure as always. I'm glad to hear your angel is recovering. We've had a Mayo Clinic many years. It's supposed to be terrific! I cancelled my doctor's appointment for now. I'm feeling so much better. Jack has an injury and is moving slow. I've cut back on anything that's not completely necessary. I want him to go to an orthopedist, but he's waiting another week to see how he does. Men...! He's a wonderful doctor/nurse to me but a terrible patient!! Thank you for your prayers. I really am feeling much more energy. Love you, sweet friend. Be blessed.

The kind smile on Lisa's face radiates to her eyes... I imagine she'd be glowing while reading this, and no doubt everyone around her feels her compassionate presence!

    I have read again...

    It's a keeper either way!

I was just scrolling through your portfolio...

    Expect a few "late" reviews!

You Sweetheart. Not sure, but I get excited when you go sneaking around,
    I will have to look.

About Lisa, it didn't make any sense without the explanation about her being an overworked nurse, and you are the other nurse i talk about. One more thing. I still pray for them, so it has to be present tense, yes, my prayer list only grows and grows. I love you so much for checking out my portfolio. Can't wait to read.
reply by karenina on 22-Jan-2023
You do not have to be a nurse to exude compassionate caring...

I present YOU as exhibit A for my defense!

You sure are in a fun and silly mood this morning, I have missed you since I have been writing too much lately. Now that I am facing all the music at my appointments, maybe I can slow down a bit. However it has been fun while it lasted to be top of the totem pole for a while. But what goes up, must come down.

Very nice. I like how the incident with the snowplow not only has Lisa reevaluate her own life and vunerability, but it lets a reader like me see her as truly human. She is fully-rounded by the end. Well done.

Sometimes we can't hear God but for the clatter around us, and when we think of it, God needs to lay a Mary time on us, because we might tire ourselves, even Jesus needed timeout to refresh Himself, an talk with His Father. Beautifully written Debi, loved this, blessings Roy

Roy, I thank you so very much! I guess people like Lisa and you are just so easy to admire and love and be friends with. But then in return make me want to be the type of person who helps others too! So I can't thank you enough for your kind comments. Much appreciated my dear friend!

An extra big thank you for that extra big star!.

Lisa sounds like an amazing person, and a very giving and caring one. Yet sometimes even bad things happen, and it sounds like she is being positive even during her enforced time off, and being blessed and a blessing. Wendy

This is a good one, Debi. If you could trim up the meter, this would be a great one. God works in mysterious ways, but I think He was a little tough on Lisa when He decided to use a snowplow.

Thanks Paul, this was a little trickier than most because of the message I needed to get across, so used a little more punctuation to help the meter along. Meter isn't usually a problem, but I added an extra stanza just to say it all. I welcome any suggestions tho! And thanks for the great review my friend
reply by Paul McFarland on 22-Jan-2023
I took some time to rewrite your poem with some underlined suggestions. I hope this does not upset you. I don't know how this will look, because this reply box is quite narrow.

Some years ago I met her, when she
    married Greg, our friend.
As neighbors, it did not take too long
for our two hearts to blend,
And early on, when I was ill, she
    brought a meal to us.
She?s always there for others, ?cause
    ?that?s just what Lisa does?.

There?re not too many nurses who
    could possibly come close;
A sweet Angel of Mercy, all her
    patients say she glows.
While working at two hospitals, she
    never makes a fuss,
And double shifts are normal, ?cause
    ?that?s just what Lisa does?.

Three years ago, our friend and her
    dear husband passed away,
So Lisa, kids and grandchildren ? for
    them, I always pray.
I know we all still wish that it could
    be as it once was.
Then Covid hit, she worked nonstop,
    ?cause ?that?s what Lisa does?.

A snowplow?s drift then put her down
    while jogging in November.
She was knocked out and couldn?t
get up ? the best she can remember.
She then stayed with her daughter
    who?s a nurse and such a plus.
The surgery went well, and then God
    gave her one more ?does?.

Now Lisa isn?t just my friend, she?s
    one who lives in Christ.
She says that God was giving her
    some very good advice.
More precious time for family, God?s
    word she always trusts.
Her extra time will bless us all, ?cause
    ?that?s what Lisa does?.

You darling man, Paul, I could never be upset with you trying to be so helpful and taking the time for me.
The funny part about this was that at one point I had the words just and then and a few other fillers. But not sure why I took them out. I didn't go to bed last night, and I don't know about you, but the longer you look at something the harder it is to see it how it should be. I know how to keep it in meter and everything, but too tired that at first I even lost the second stanza. Have no idea where that went. Anyway, I adore you for what you did. I wish when we get like that we would bounce them off of another writer who could help. However, I am just so honored that you took the time. i feel really good about putting some of my old parts back and taking some of your new suggestions. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, my very sweet friend.
reply by Paul McFarland on 22-Jan-2023
I know what you mean about staying up all night. I'm pretty good about realizing when to put something aside when I get too tired.
reply by the author on 22-Jan-2023
Done! So it ended up a little bit of yours and a little of my own add ons. I hated to use the word then so much so changed some to had and a few others, but it worked with the meter. The phrase sister in Christ was personal to us, as of course you wouldn't know that. And I know that yours were only suggestions, but so much for the one who pm's me right away and was trying to cut my syllables down. So I think it reads really nice now. I truly needed today, another perspective. Especially after no sleep and a lot going on in my head right now. So I thank you one more time, and I hope you know how well you are appreciated today.

I am too normally, but when
using your writing to not face other things aren't good. Y'know? So if I put it aside I still have to think. Women!!!
    LOL
reply by Paul McFarland on 22-Jan-2023
I should shut up, but I just want to mention something. You have written this poem in iambic meter, so each line will start with a soft accent. You still have a hard accent to start lines eight and fourteen. I'll leave you alone now. God bless.
