This is a well-written and enjoyable story. The ending makes it a sixer in my opinion. I enjoyed the read and actually read it a couple of times to get the full 'satire' feel. Great job, Terry. ann

Ann, thank you for the early read, and the six stars!!! I do think the ending is better, the idea was sparked by Wayne Fowler. T erry.

This is hilarious, Terry! Did you rewrite your story as suggested? lol I wonder what the editors of the magazine thought about this story. I wish you luck.

Judy, thank you for reading. I did not rewrite the story. I rewrote this story's ending based on a suggestion from a FS member. Terry.

You're most welcome, Terry.

I loved it. I enjoyed the conversations of the two editors. I am sure there was a good bit of truth in the way they did things. It was very well written with no errors. I liked the character's names, especially Miss Spittlebomb. Well done! Sarah

It would probably take an expert to count the number of times life and fiction interact in the real world. Art. I believe, by it's very nature must imitate life in order for it to be workable. If art is too far out there, what would be the attraction? This my dear friend, is another brilliant write by someone who is becoming my favorite author. You are already one of.

Nomi, thank you for the six stars!!! And your very kind words. I do appreciate your comments. I just rewrote the ending of this story based on a comment by Wayne Fowler. Terry.

Much of my most celebrated work came about as a result of a comment or sometimes a review by fellow writers. This is just another example of how we provide support for each other.

Amen, brother!

Terry,
This was a pure delight to read. The publishing world has been leading the woke charge for decades. That was a clever way to slip Tom and FanStory into the story. The dialogue, unfortunately, was highly believable. I also loved the characters names. This is a great contender for story of the month, but you have some competition. Marienkiefer's "Turquoise and Cinnamon" is extraordinary. You should check it out.

Sue, thank you for the six stars!!! And your very kind comments. I will check out the story you mentioned. I don't think the satire will be a story of the month contender. Humpwhistle probably has another or two yet to post. I am glad you enjoyed it. Terry.

Comment from Wayne Fowler
Great work. Excellently written.
I'm sure FanStory members will recognize themselves.
One line you could have inserted. "Sorry, Mr. Blockhead, the costs of editing and formatting, less your royalty, you owe us a thousand bucks to publish your piece."
Best wishes.

Wayne, LOL, I like the way you think, I should have thought of that, I might yet. Thanks for reading, Terry.

Well I don't know what that famous magazine thought of it, but for pure laughter value I give it a gold star (not worth as much as real literature awards, but they're pretty elusive as I read a lot and only have six to give out... but you've heard this excuse a zillion times). Note, I'm an editor who doesn't take a percentage off the writers earnings when edits are needed unless there are so many of them they make it hard to follow the tale. Kate xx

A subversive cult, huh? I always wanted to be a member of a cult:-)
You trotted out all the characters for this one, and it was quite entertaining. I can hear the conversation - especially that last line. Do we all want to be published that badly, I wonder?
Thanks for a fun read. You'll have to let us know if New York gets back to you on this one.

Pam, Thank you for reading, and I am delighted you enjoyed the story. Let's do not hold our breath on the New Yorker. Terry.
Comment from Jesse James Doty
Wow, Tom, I love all the satire and the dialogue is fun to read. All of this sounds too good to be true but who knows? You said you really submitted this to the New Yorker and what happened when you did? I guess I know the answer, they laughed in your face!
Whatever happened this is dripping with fun satire and I love what you wrote about Hillary!
Thanks for the laughs and entertainment!

Jesse, thank you very much for the six stars!!! You are very kind; I am delighted you enjoyed the satire. The New Yorker says if you have not heard from us in three months, then the answer was no. Go figure. Terry.

Unfortunately, most publishers give the same answer. If you don't hear from us, the answer is no!

Comment from Sandra Stoner-Mitchell
This was such a fun read and I could almost say most publishers are like this. I especially like the commas and tenses and it not being their job to correct them! Lol. I doubt anyone would be published if that truly happened, even the famous novelists make mistakes and aren't picked up before being published. I've noticed that with some books I read. I really enjoyed this, Terry, it was fun and also a fabulous plug for you sperm book! Lol. :)) Sandra xx
