I had a friend recently look at a picture of my mother and ask, "when was this picture of you taken?" It's eerie how much we come to look like them. Your short poem tells a complete story, and one that many know. Nicely done!

Love the two photos of your mother. Your words describe well the road of life. I like your middle line "Tempered and refined by life". It is a true line for all of us. Excellent use of words.

I love the comparison and contrast in your poem.
-Drawing parallels.
-Life in juxtaposition
-Wistful recognition.
Celebrating a life lived that refines the face, beauty in its folds.
Beautiful choices of words, poem that exudes admiration, in my opinion.
Well done.

Some of us weather better than others, but if we live long enough the rough roads of life take their toll to some degree on us all. Your mother has aged well for 90, still bright eyed and pleasantly doesn't look her age. You are lucky if there is a resemblance. Thanks for sharing.

The thing that stands out to me is that in both photos she is smiling. If you can smile after a lifetime of living, you are not doing too bad. Listen, in all of our lives, there are occasions for sorrow, sadness and trying situations. The trick, I think, is to not allow the little bumps in the road steal your joy of living and loving. That is how you maintain that winning smile.

Your mother is one of the lucky ones, she aged gracefully and kept her beauty. So many try to keep their younger looks without realising how lovely they look naturally. This is a beautiful poem, and I'm sure she will love it. I'm becoming more my mother than my mother! If she were still with me, she'd say we look like sisters!! Lol. Miss her lots. Treasure yours while you still have her. (I'm assuming you do?) Warm hugs, Sandra x

Sadly, she is gone, But I did treasure her. She would have been pleased, think, and a bit self conscious to be the subject of a poem!

I am sorry, Nancy. It's hard, isn't it.
I wrote a quite a few poems about my mum, and had one published in our local paper. My mum framed it! I do miss her. We have our memories, Nancy, they will never leave us. xxx

The second photo shows a life well lived, and at ninety she seems happy and smiling! Wrinkles are earned from life's experiences. If you look like this at the same age, that will be a good thing. lovely words in your poem.

I am sorry for your recent loss. Your mother's beauty was equally evident at twenty and at ninety... Her eyes hold that kindness one cannot fake! Our mirrors may trace every line but in our heart of hearts we are as young as our zest for life! Beautiful poem. What is your mother's name? I'd like to say a prayer for her.

'Ma's Mirror', is an exceptionally well-written and delightfully heart-warming piece. To me this is a true six. Your mother was a truly beautiful woman.
