This is a very great Sonnet. You wrote about being stirred by desire to write in the late at night, only to find the dawn was approaching and birds starts to sing. It's very Shakespearian.
Exceptionally done and good luck.

Thank you for inspiration and I wrote one, too.

These words are magic: Each stanza dances with a lilting spin,
as though it lives a life upon the stage.
When inspiration tempts me in the night,
I rise, awakened by the need to write.
Great poem for the contest. Good luck,

This sonnet speaks to me Melissa because it is as if it was written about me as I sometimes rise before the dawn with a poem in mind and can't wait to write it down. I am loving your well chosen words, metre and sentiment here, a magical sonnet that spoke volumes about the poet and his eagerness to write and create, love Dolly x

Your Shakespearean sonnet is excellent in every respect--skillfully written with accurate rhyme and meter and vividly descriptive of an experience
that will probably resonate with many--me, for sure! :-)

Ignore that five, Melissa. This is a seven. I suspect you will win the sonnet contest. You express sentiments that we who play with words all feel. So your words reach deep in our hearts. That first line is English literature worthy. So is your image of lilting words dancing on the stage.
I am so glad that you are tempted to write because poems like this enrich my days.

Melissa,
How lovely! There are so many ways to write that we get awakened by thoughts and inspiration and feel the need to get up and write them down before they escape - I've read the phrases and descriptions many times - but this was such a new and clever take on it. How romantic!

I love this sonnet with its perfectly chosen words and rhyme and meter. I smiled because this just happened to me this week on Thursday. I had not written a poem for a challenge at FaithWriters.com that I enter weekly, when suddenly I remembered at 1:00 A.M. it had to be in by 11:00. An idea came immediately, and I went into the bathroom, closed the door so the light wouldn't wake my husband, jotted down four verses. I finished it when morning came and turned it in with 15 minutes to spare. This poem is beautiful!

This Shakespearean sonnet, Awakened, has the proper formatting and describes that urge to fill and perfect a piece of wring. The dark becomes dawn, the fog becomes noon, the dust becomes night as the inspiration runs ramped through the piece. Nice.

You have surely joined the club and in this post have penned exactly how many of us are inspired and write. I keep paper and pen at the bedside a I wake up at night with words flowing through my head and If I don't write them down they are gone forever. Great job on this and thank you for sharing.
