This is fiction reading like non-fiction. So many people seem to have similar stories or stories of bereavement that are not as comfortable as this, accidents at Christmas time have resulted in death. Well written and veery believable.

Very true. It is partly fiction, but based on fact. Much worse would be an accidental or unexpected death. Thank you for reviewing. Appreciated as always.

It's my lunchtime and I am crying so over this beautiful story, which to a believer is heavenly. When my time comes I hope this wonder shall be for me too. Wendy, your gentle soul speaks out once again. It is a great entry for the contest and I wish you the best of luck!!

Oh Sherry dear, what a lovely review. So appreciated. Thank you so much for your supportive words and good wishes. I hope the same for myself, a gentle passing into the presence of Jesus, and Him leading me home.

Tender poignant entry for the contest. Excellent portrayal of the special bond between Grandpa and his daughter Maria. I have a dear friend whose father passed away at Christmas. This makes it a bitter sweet time for her.
I didn't understand the description of Maria living "interstate". Does this mean "out of state"? An 80 minute flight is a fair distance.
Best wishes for the contest.
Stay safe and blessed

Hi Julia, thank you for a lovely review, and good wishes. Yes, interstate means that she lives in a different state, in this case about 700 miles The story is set in Australia, so we have a different expression. It is fiction, but based on fact.

Oh I see. Interstate has a different meaning in the US so I was confused. Since it's a contest entry you might want to take a look at that section of your write, Wendy

Thank you Julia. Yes, it must be a cultural difference. I changed it to "lives in another state".
We have a different word "intestate" ( with a very different meaning from "interstate". "Intestate" means that the person died, but did not leave a will. Changing it will avoid any confusion, so thanks for the "heads-up". Also for the good wishes.

Yes I think that little change will clear up any possible confusion :-))

Your words have touched my heart once again, dear friend. It was perfect...reminding us there is joy even when we see the sadness. It was a perfect exchange. Good luck in the contest. I thought it was beautiful and definitely should give every one a run for their money.

This is a sweet contest entry and I enjoyed reading. Thank you for sharing this story. Good luck.
Finally she found a flight for the next morning, (the following morning)
"Would you like me to pray with you?" Maria tentatively asked.
"I don't really know how to pray," he answered.
"I will pray - just squeeze my hand if you agree," she answered. (Three dialogues, need three paragraphs)
"Yes", ("Yes,"

What a very sad but poignant and sensitive poem, for those dear folk that are left and dear ones have passed. There have been so many that have gone home this year that I, know, tragically but joyfully, well done, Wendy, beautifully done, blessings Roy
