Roy, it is a very compelling poem you've written here and I'm so glad that you were saved from a life doomed. In your case you found your faith and that has led you to a wonderful life, a wonderful and beautiful family. I'm so happy for you. I used to smoke, and a lot. But I went cold turkey more than thirty years ago. I do like a glass of red wine with my meal and don't see that as a problem. Gambling doesn't even occur to me. I admire you for getting away from your demons. Ulla:)))

You took us from hopelessness to Hope in the Lord in this testimonial poem. Great personification of addiction! It's very much like how the Book of Proverbs presents this temptress. I recently saw the "Donut King" about a Cambodian refugee who became a multi-millionaire and lost his wife and family and friends and all his money due to addiction. It was so sad.

This poem paints a clear picture of the hold of addiction. I love how you show the contrast of the Spirit's entrance into your life in the final stanza. I appreciate your notes and Scripture verses also. Blessings. Carol

Roy,
This is such a great poem...smooth as silk but with a strong message to heed. I never knew of your past but from several poems you have posted of late. So thankful you heeded the Call by the Savior to part from the ways that were imprisoning you!
This tale will hopefully give others hope as they journey on Life's way, I know it did me. Thanks for posting this timely and urgent poem of the wonders that faith can bring.
Have a wonderful weekend, Roy:))

How heartwarming. The path to the discovery of truth is often rocky. It takes wisdom and faith to recognize we are being led towards truth if only we open our eyes. Wise words, thanks for sharing!

Some among us are trained by parents from infancy, trained so well that they never stray from the path. Others among us, myself included, wander through the world tasting and testing most of the world's depraved treats. Falling into and out of the many cesspools that Satan provides for our eventual destruction. Jehovah God sends out a light, some see it and respond, accept his hand and clean ourselves up repent from our sinful ways and began to travel the road to redemption. Some see the light and turn away, content to lie in the world's filthy hellhole. I pray for them, but it may well be too late. I thank God for your salvation, just as I thank him for mine.

It is amazing how God makes you love the things you once hated and hate the things you once loved. The Holy Spirit will do it every time and that is called being saved. Well done Bro.

I really enjoyed this tale of a life of debauchery and self-destruction until God entered your life and changed it in its entirety. The Lord truly was your savior, like He has been for many of us.
Your beautifully rhymed couplets, your imagery and visuals, and the strength of faith in your words make it for an excellent read. And thank you for your author's notes explaining your story. I am impressed by your honesty.

Wow! This is such a powerful piece. Even though you have explained in the comments below, the struggle can be felt in the poem. The rhythm and flow of this is so steady and grounding, yet very much like riding waves. The reader is right there with you.
