You have written a beautiful poem based on this rhyme that I have heard since I was a child about the wise old owl. This is a wonderful lesson for young and old alike, to listen more and speak less. Very well done.

Dear Anne, thank you for taking the time to read my take on this well-known poem. I cannot find the origin except that it appeared around the 19th Century. A fun and challenging prompt!

This is an intriguing children's poem. It is clever and well-crafted with good rhyme and meter and excellent imagery. I've heard the idiom before but I can't recall from whence it came. Perhaps it is from that well known individual, Anonymous. He gets around, I understand. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful review, Mary. Yes, hehe, that Anonymous! I could not find a reference to credit for the original poem, just that it appeared in the USA in the 19th Century. Thanks for taking the time to read!
