So true. It seems that we like nothing better than cutting people down - the tall poppy syndrome. This is encouraged by the destructive nature of the media. They like nothing better than a scandal and do all that they can to inflate it out of proportion. However, perhaps I should not malign them. They are only doing their job.

So true, politicians reflect the views of those voting for them. In our country we have voting districts made up of particular groups, and the person the elect may not represent the views of the rest of the country. It gets complicated. Yes, i think people are getting the government they deserve. We should pray for our politicians. Many are dedicated public servants and deserve our support. Those who go against what we want, we can make a change by voting. Wonderful thoughts on the subject, and excellent rhyme. judi

I found hard to answer your question, of how leaders reflect us...
One thing I like in your rhyming poem is--of what you said,
So why accuse them, (those who serve)?
They're never drawn from saint's preserve.
If you are clean, no blemished soul,
then you can judge those black as coal.

You make a lot of good points and certainly from a religious Point of View.
Yes, we all are flawed, imperfect and are hypocrites to some degree. But that is crux, to what degree? Just because we all sin, does not mean we do judge those who do, as we judge ourselves. Nor does it mean we cannot expect people to overcome their imperfections. Just as expect our spouses to honor their vows. If they break them, we do not throw up our hands and say, "Oh well. Only God can judge you."
At least my wife would never say that.
Thought provoking work as always. Well done.

Hi Roy,
Another great poem from this talented poet. Yes, this judgmental atmosphere is for the birds, except the birds have more innate sense! Always am amazed at your wise words and the lovely way that you remind us to heed the teachings we've learned but may have have forgotten in our hustle bustle way of life ...
Thanks for keeping us on the straight and narrow, Roy. As much as we don't want to sometimes admit it, lol, politicians are people too! We elected them, so they are a reflection on us.
Have a great week!

You have done an excellent job with a sensible poem with a poignant and truthful point. The rhymes and metered lines are expertly crafted, and the skillfully drafted verse aims right for the heart. Well done, Roy!!

Comment from Gloria ....
Excellent post, with lots of things to consider about ourselves, and public discourse. It always take a great deal of discipline to stay within the proper for discussion, which is the purpose of the Fourth Estate. The intention to focus debate on the merits of policy, and then reach an acceptable consensus, usually through compromise.
As always, Roy, you deliver fine rhyme and metre, and something to think about. :))

This is a well-written and thought-provoking poem. Yes, are politicians are a reflection of those who put them in office. We should support those who are hard-working public servants who are honest and who have the public good in their souls. We have and have had great leaders who while not perfect and have made mistakes and you can even disagree with them but without hate. It is tough when they openly lie or take hypocritical stances that are more self-serving or lack compassion for those in need. Unfortunately, we have our share of those.
Regards,
Mary

Your words are well said, politicians and those in authority are human, and will make mistakes. Our duty is to pray for them, and do our part to support them in their decisions.

Yes, they do, at least the majority in a democractic society. I do vote and study the candidates carefully. I'm amazed at who wins and what they stand for. Our government has allowed for corrupt politicians instead of good and wise people at the helm. We are off course here and as the Bible has already predicted, we are seeing signs of the end times, like labor pains increasing daily. The Lord is coming and with Him, the judgement. I hope everyone I know turns to Him while He can be found. John 3:16-18. Blessings while He comes. Lift up your head!
